Our server, Eric, was exceptional. His recommendations were perfect. We shared a bowl of the French onion soup, and I can tell you, it was the best I’ve ever had. I’d go back just for that!! We also shared a large steak and the stacked scallop potatoes. Even sharing, we had more than enough food. The drinks were delicious and I topped it off with a crème brûlée. So happy we chose this restaurant and will be returning.

Best steak we've had on the island. On the pricey side though: Two ~26oz ribeye steaks, two appetizers, two sides, and two drinks came to ~ $370

That Tomahawk steak is the best steak I have ever had. So juicy and flavor was on a different level can’t escape the price though but if you have the bread like that definitely go spend it on that steak. You wont be disappointed.

We were able to get a last-minute reservation, which was a nice surprise. Service was excellent from start to finish. The only minor downside is that you can smell nail polish in the lobby from the nail salon next door—thankfully, the scent doesn’t carry into the dining area.

My favorite bite of the night was the lardons on the wedge salad, which was unexpected since I’d never had them before. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The steak was a little over salted but still had good flavor. The layered potatoes were an interesting take on scalloped potatoes but definitely delicious. Not pictured but also tasty was the carrot cake. Overall, a great experience.

Dear Mr. Bowdish,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to share some feedback about our recent visit to your Hilton Head location on Sunday evening, May 4th, at 6:45 PM.

We were genuinely looking forward to dining at Bowdie’s again, as we had a wonderful experience about a year ago and were excited to return. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet the high expectations set by our previous one, largely due to a series of service missteps and an interaction with your general manager, Mr. Kendall Frazier, that left us disappointed.

We were seated at a high-top in the bar area and greeted by Ken, who took our drink order. My wife asked for a glass of water and a glass of Chardonnay. I specifically asked for a Black Russian made with Ketel One vodka and Kahlúa. A short time later, another staff member, Jordan, introduced himself as our server and asked for our drink preferences again. We let him know Ken had already taken the order, and he mentioned they’d be working together.

When the drinks arrived, I was given a White Russian instead of a Black Russian, which Ken corrected. However, when I tasted the corrected drink, I could tell it wasn’t made with Kahlúa. Out of curiosity, I asked Jordan what was used, and he told me it was Mr. Black. That was surprising, especially since I hadn’t been informed of the substitution. It also made me wonder whether the vodka used was actually Ketel One, as I had requested.

As we moved on to appetizers, my wife requested the Grilled Caesar salad to be chopped, which Jordan said was no problem. I ordered the Cream of Crab Soup. When the dishes arrived, the salad was not chopped, and my soup came without a spoon. After waiting a few minutes, I approached Ken at the bar to ask for one. His body language and tone suggested annoyance, and when I tried to lighten the moment by saying, “You all need to step up your game,” he seemed even more irritated. I attempted to explain that our drink, soup, and salad had all come out incorrectly, but he abruptly told me he would remove them from the check and walked away.

That interaction set a negative tone for the rest of the evening. While the salad was eventually chopped and the soup was delicious, the experience had already been impacted. Later, when our main course arrived, Jordan offered to cut the cowboy steak and noted it was undercooked (rare instead of medium). He took both plates back without issue, and we appreciated his professionalism throughout the evening.

At the end of the meal, I asked Jordan who Ken was and was surprised to learn he was the general manager. I understand that everyone can have an off day, but I was taken aback by the lack of hospitality and the dismissive attitude from someone in a leadership role. It was a stark contrast to the warm, attentive service we experienced during our previous visit.

I’m sharing this feedback not to complain, but in the hope that it can be a teachable moment. Your restaurant has a stellar reputation, and we’ve experienced firsthand the excellence it’s known for. I truly hope our experience was an exception and that future guests continue to receive the high level of service Bowdie’s is celebrated for.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate your attention and wish you continued success.

Warm regards

If I could give 100000 stars I would! My sister and I celebrated our bday here on vacation and Nicole gave the best service I have ever received. If I was a local I would be here for every celebration. Thank you for an amazing experience! Will be back any chance I get and ask for Nicole!

As someone who has spent their entire career in the restaurant industry, I arrived at Bowdies this past Sunday with high expectations. We were early for our reservation, but the staff was very accommodating and seated us immediately, which was a nice start to our evening. Unfortunately, the appetizers set a concerning tone. The scallop appetizer was a significant letdown; it was excessively salty with an off-putting, almost chemical taste that made it impossible to finish. The escargot, while not terrible, was quite standard – served with garlic butter and bread, but tasted as though it was prepared with canned snails. The main courses offered a mixed bag. The truffle fries were excellent, and the Brussels sprouts with pork belly were truly fantastic – a definite highlight of the meal. For our steaks, we ordered a bone-in ribeye and a bone-in filet, both medium-rare. The ribeye was cooked almost perfectly and was quite enjoyable. However, the bone-in filet arrived medium-well, a significant overcook for a steak costing around $75. Additionally, we ordered both the Bowdies sauce and the peppercorn sauce, but only received two sides of the Bowdies. I had to specifically request the peppercorn sauce. When the manager visited our table for a check-in, I mentioned the overcooked filet. While he kindly offered to replace it, we declined as we were hungry and had already eaten about a quarter of the steak. The manager suggested we save room for dessert, which we took to mean he might be offering it complimentary as a gesture for the steak issue. This wasn't the case, which is perfectly fine, but the carrot cake we ordered had icing that strangely tasted like aerosol. In summary, for a $400 meal for two, the overall experience was not worth the price. While there were some bright spots, the significant missteps with the scallops and the overcooked steak, coupled with the minor service issues, left us feeling underwhelmed.

Absolutely delicious birthday dinner. Thank you to Brandon who did a great job taking care of us.
