The Salty Dog Ice Cream Shop

One of our favorite spots on HHI! We love it for the atmosphere and the food. Plan to spend your whole evening there. There will be a wait, so just plan on it! Grab a drink and some popcorn and just enjoy your night! And make sure to leave some room for ice cream afterwards

We own a condo in Bluff Villas next door and the moment I arrive my first stop is always Salty Dog Ice Cream shop! They have a rotating menu but my fave is the Oreo. Honestly every flavor I have ever had has been absolutely delicious. I love this place and the hush puppies at the cafe are a close second!

We arrived on a Monday night around 8:30, and this place was relatively crowded. The staff was nice while we were being served. The seating was a seat-yourself situation, with plenty of tables and chairs, as well as picnic tables, to choose from (outside area).

Ice cream selections included all of the classics with a good variety of toppings. There was at least one non-dairy flavor that I enjoyed (cookies and cream made with goat milk). And my husband had a delicious root beer float.

We could hear the live music from the restaurant next to the ice cream shop and enjoyed listening while we ate our treat.

Thing to note - one teenage girl in front of us in line said she has a peanut allergy and opted not to buy anything. I’m not entirely sure of her conversation with the staff, but if you have a peanut allergy (or any allergy), it may be worth talking through your options with the staff as well. I am highly lactose intolerant and the non-dairy Oreo ice was perfect for me. I just appreciated an option that wasn’t sherbet.

Dietary restrictions: There are a few non-dairy options that include goat milk. I would ask about ingredients of toppings and such if you are allergic to dairy (not lactose intolerant).

Great home made ice cream, great landscape, live music, free samples, and great seating. Best ice cream on the island.

Only detractor is the gate fee to get into the gated community. The guy working the gate we entered was extremely rude.

The Mint chocolate chip is one of the best I have ever had. Love that they change the flavors all the time so you can always try something new. The staff are super friendly and really efficient. I even was able to get whipped cream in a cup for my dog....she loved it.

This ice cream was so good. It made my night. I was happy that I arrived at a decent time. The line wasn't as long as I anticipated. They also offer samples, which is a plus.

So the location, service and wait time were all good but the place lacks flavors and menu items.

It's best for little kids who just need a scoop of ice cream. For the adults who'd like some options, this is not the place.
