Stono Market and Tomato Shed Cafe

So as I look through most of the reviews I'm shocked. We ordered several meals and shared them. The meatloaf was awful. The actual meat was bad and its topped with a sauce that tastes just like spaghetti o's from a can. The fried pork chops was so so dry it was hard to swallow. i hate leaving bad reviews but $160 and we all got taco bell on the way home snd was happier

Well, after 25 years of visiting the Tomato Shed on a regular basis, you've finally done it. You made a meal that I didn't like. My mother in law (from Michigan) insists on going to the Tomato Shed every time they visit Charleston, which we are always happy to accommodate. This visit, I had the meatloaf. It was well prepared, others at our table thought it was great. I just didn't care for it. No, there was nothing wrong with it. Yes, it looked wonderful, and smelled amazing. I have no valid complaint about it. I just didn't care for it.

So, why am I writing this review? Because it is the first time since moving back home that I didn't absolutely love everything I've had there. Such a rarity needs to be remarked upon.

Our server was awesome (I didn't remember his name, but he was cheerful and fun), the ambience was very pleasant, as always, and the whole experience was excellent. But, for the first time ever, the Tomato Shed was not *perfect*.

Overall, great job. Keep up the good work.

This is where the locals eat. Unpretentious but the service is genuinely friendly, the food is fresh, tasty & generous portions, and the prices are economical. Today we had the tomato basil soup and shared a generous egg salad sandwich. No longer big eaters, it was more than enough. The soup was very rich and the egg salad was tasty. They also serve dinner Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

The broccoli fritters were the absolute best. Great atmosphere for hanging out and having great food, the volume levels were just right. Fantastic, friendly service. Loved this place!

I must say this was a pleasant turn around and go back stop! I ordered the crab cakes and they were amazing! I can’t recommend this place enough if you’re in the area! They have a great farmers markets in the back!

What was an unsuspecting restaurant at first turned into a fantastic lunch. Lots of cool knickknacks and things to look at while you wait for a table. The food came pretty quickly and everything was excellent. Tomato pie was great, crab cakes were some of the best I’ve had in Charleston as a whole, and the coconut cake was excellent. This will be a new staple for me, absolutely recommend!

The service by Lucy was excellent and she’s a pro. The mushroom soup is one of the best I’ve ever had and I’ve ordered many times at other places

The hostess was very friendly and welcoming and made the wait seem brief.

The entree pork chop was ok certainly wouldn’t order again and sadly all food is served on Chinet plates taking the whole experience down several notches as related to quality of experience and presentation.

I thought this was a nice list place. In addition to the diner, there’s a small grocery shopping area that was really cool. There’s also a gift shop so it has a little bit of everything.

I got the Roast Pork and Gravy and my wife got a burger without the bun on top of a salad. I thought the food was good. We had just come from the Angel Tree which isn’t too far from the restaurant.

Give the place a try. Very nice waitstaff. They’ll treat you right.
