Amazing experience, food and service! While visiting Folly Beach and IOP for the first time, we quickly came to realize they are not places for foodies. That's where The Royal Tern came in! We discovered this place by Googling restaurants nearby and boy, I'm glad we did! The atmosphere is beautiful, the food is to die for, and the service was impeccable.

Everything that hit the table was amazing! Beautiful ambiance inside. We came for my birthday and everyone loved the meals, apps, and deserts! My whole flounder was the best I’ve ever had. Super fresh crab dip, calamari, shishito peppers, and steak. Top notch place for a special occasion or just a nice date night!

The hype over The Royal Tern was not worth the wait or the food. I've been looking to try out the Royal Tern for a while now, but reservations were always filled up. I finally made the call and decided to book something several weeks in advance. Started with a few appetisers: Tuna and Salmon, Wood Grilled Oysters, and the Calamari. The oysters were the best of the three, but nothing I'd write home about. I tried the main entrée of Scallops. It was delicious, but honestly, I've had better in the Charleston area. The environment was deafening, even in the very early evening hours, which made it difficult to hear someone sitting right across from you. The service was excellent. Can't complain about that at all.
Overall, the moral of the story is: If you see a lot of cars parked out in front of a place, it doesn't necessarily mean it's good. I don't believe I'll be returning to this establishment.

Great food and service but very noisy. Had dinner with out of town guests and very hard to have a decent conversation.
The Royal Tern absolutely lives up to its name - dining here was a truly royal experience. We had dinner with another couple and enjoyed their company as much as the food! We collectively shared salads and fluffy yeast rolls which were amazing. We had the whole market fish grilled and it was perfectly cooked with crisp skin and perfect scores. The coconut rice was just sweet enough and a great compliment to the salty fish. Another guest had the flat iron steak and it was cooked just as she asked and splendid. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, light, airy, and a beautiful place to enjoy a great meal with great friends.
