We had the pleasure of stopping at The Root Cellar in Batesburg for lunch today, and wow—what an incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the stage for what turned out to be an outstanding meal.
My wife ordered the grilled pork chops with three vegetables, while I went with a classic hamburger and fries. Every bite was packed with flavor, and the food arrived hot and fresh with barely any wait time. The attention to detail in both the preparation and presentation was evident.
Our server, Janice, was an absolute delight—greeted us with a smile and was full of great recommendations to help us choose the perfect meal. Her friendly, attentive service made the experience even better.
If you’re anywhere near Batesburg, The Root Cellar is a must-visit. Outstanding food, top-notch service, and a welcoming atmosphere—highly recommended!

The hot chicken sandwich rivals that of charleston gourmet restaurant. I highly recommend! Pretty much all the food is amazing. The service is fantastic as will. Thank you, Root Cellar for the consistency and excellent FPS and service.

Come here fairly often. We drive from Leesville where there is another Root Cellar location, but we prefer the Lexington food. Recommend the Burgers, for sure. We always ask for lightly cooked fries and that’s what we get. The kitchen is always accommodating. Most recently, my mother had fried green tomatoes- she said they were fantastic. I also love the chicken sandwich. Hot and tasty. Yes, it can be a little loud inside. Not a place to go if you are in a screaming hurry :) Really like going to the Root Cellar.

Me and my date orders steaks, the worst cut of meet I ever had, ordered ribeyes, horrible, then our order comes to our table, and the tell us they sold out of baked potatoes,so they sent mashed potatoes that were wrong, I dropped 90$ on a McDonald meal, then the doors closed at 8 pm on a Thursday night, won't go back, and my girlfriend took those chewy steaks to her dog, because I wouldn't feed them to mine, went to outback today and the same ribeye was 3.00 more but came with shrimp, was awesome, I love to shop local but that experience was horrible

Please stop burning the livers!!! this is one of my go to places for your mashed potatoes and livers. I was here several months ago and the livers were so burnt I took the rest of them home and gave to my dogs as a nighttime treat I will try again sometime in the future Thank you Mrs fowler

Seating was prompt, service was good, and the atmosphere was decent but I would not return. I ordered the fried chicken special with collards and Mac and cheese. The food was simply not worth the price paid. The chicken itself was served lukewarm like it had been sitting under the light for atleast ten mins or had been reheated. The Mac and cheese was also lukewarm and dry and flavorless. The collards were unseasoned as well as bitter, as if they had not been cooked long enough and were only cooked in unseasoned water. The gravy on the chicken was also flavorless and the chicken itself was nothing special. I've had a similar entree that was even better at Cracker Barrel for crying out loud. I expect alot more for a place that prides itself on southern cuisine in a semi upscale atmosphere.
