The BEST fish and chips I have ever had! Lightly bread amazing piece of Mahi fish fried to perfection. We also had the shrimp basket which was absolutely delicious!! Great service and wonderful music tonight. The outside was perfect with a warm fire.

The Bent Rod in the cute coastal town of McClellanville did not disappoint! For starters we had the crab cake hush puppies (the house made tartar sauce that accompanied it was chef’s kiss!) and Dynamite shrimp, which were both delicious! Our three main entrees included the fried pork chops with a side of homemade mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli; Shrimp fried rice and Sesame Seared Tuna that included a side of marinated cucumbers. Everything was cooked to perfection and it was evident that the seafood was fresh! The staff was very attentive, friendly that paired perfect with the laid back, Lowcountry environment. We highly recommend and look forward to returning in the future!

Don't judge a book by its cover! The Bent Rod is unassuming but offers very good food with a friendly atmosphere. Because it is the only establishment of its type in McClellanville, it is a popular nightspot steeped in local flavor.
Because McClellanville has a notable shrimp industry, that is a highlight of the menu. Local crab is also offered. If you prefer turf to surf, there are also burgers, salads, etc.
I had crab hush puppies (delicious, if a bit too browned) and shrimp tacos. Both came in ample servings! The tacos were a bit messy so I gave up on the tortillas after one, and just ate the wonderful and savory shrimp filling.
It must be said that this fresh, local shrimp was especially plump, juicy and delectable!!!

I read a few reviews and love to find local places to support the community we stay it. We are at Buck Hall Recreation area for a few days and The Bent Rod is one of those local places if you miss it you don’t know what you’re missing. The kids enjoyed a grilled cheese and chicken tenders and my wife had a jalapeño Smashburger. And I enjoyed the catch of the day which was a nice grilled Mahi topped with fresh purple onions jalapeños and tiny tomatoes with lemon and it was a great surprise. Everything was delicious and a nice friendly atmosphere. We arrived as they opened and were welcomed right in. I can’t say enough good things about The Bent Rod. We will be back.

The reviews were great and so we took a chance to dine at The Bent Rod. The service was friendly and was ok. The menu and food, well, not so much. 1/2 the things on the menu you couldn't order. They didn't have BBQ, Mac and cheese, the shrimp chowder, the Caesar salad, etc. Everything I picked wasn't available. We ended up ordering partly, only to find out the two items only 1 item was available and ended up order the scallop fried rice (one of the most expensive items on the menu). I cook and bake a lot. The dish came out so hot the only explanation is thar it was microwaved (and it looked flat like when your you microwave food). It was disappointing. Lots of overcooked rice with very little veggies or seafood. The bill came to what we'd normally spend at a more upscale restaurant. (No alcohol drinks were ordered). This may be a passing issue (the menu), but, it really wasn't worth the money we spent. Would I give it another chance? Maybe. I would probably call ahead to see if the menu is truly available. It was a Friday night when we visited and the place was really empty (concerning).

I want to share a post about the owner of this restaurant. My wife and I were out on the water and had an issue with our vessel. The owner and his crew saw us stuck and came over and stated they would never leave us out here. Only in South Carolina will you find real people. People that do what they say and say what they do. These guys are amazing people and will be visiting the restaurant. I give 10 stars to people like this that are truly salt of the earth. Looking forward to a long time friendship here and that should make everyone reading this post think that if he would do this imagine what he would do for his customers….thank you again!!!!
Great atmosphere! Lovely outdoor area. Perfect for kids to run around. Food was very good and fresh and service was top-notch!

I've been to 1000's of places across this country. And this local restaurant is top 3 . The freshest local seafood dish and the smash Burger is amazing. And you can't be that southern charm and best service. Gennie are service was amazing. If your traveling down US 17 this is the place to stop.
