Chips and salsa were great! But… Enchiladas were not good. No seasoning or flavor and I didn’t eat much of it because it was just bland, even with the salsa on top. Obviously others like it which is why I visited, but this wasn’t for me.

Don’t waste your money or time. We had been here before and it was good. Food and service went downhill significantly since then.

I recently visited this restaurant for lunch, and what started as an exciting chance to try somewhere we have not eaten quickly turned into a disappointing experience.

I ordered the Carne Asada, and when it arrived, it was covered in onions, making it difficult to see the meat. Once I took a closer look, it resembled liver more than steak. I tried two bites, but the flavor and texture were just not good. I politely let our server know that I didn’t like the dish. I never send dishes back however she was kind and offered to bring me another meal, so I ordered the Carnitas instead.

When the Carnitas came out, another staff member—possibly a manager—approached me with the new dish and asked if I wanted a box for the first one. I was confused until she clarified that I would need to pay for both meals. I was surprised, as in my experience working in the restaurant industry, that’s not how good customer service is handled. I paid for both dishes but left disappointed and they didn’t bring me my original dish in the box I was told I had to pay for.

Unfortunately, what began as a hopeful lunch outing for my family turned into a frustrating experience. I won’t be returning.

Excellent. Just excellent taste. My family came in late on a Friday and everyone loved what they ordered. We'll be back when we're in town. If you want something more texicana (more traditional southeast mexican restaurant) they accepted our of menu order requests.

We decided to try this restaurant because so many friends have told us to go. We had the most amazing young kids waiting on us! So impressed. All of the waitstaff were young high schoolers and they were all so friendly! They smiled and were attentive! We started with chips and queso. Loved the chips. Queso was on the watery side. I have to say my food was ok. I had the enchiladas and they were served with red sauce, beans and rice. The enchiladas were good but the red sauce made the rest of the dish very soupy. I didn’t eat the refried beans or rice. My daughter had the steak and onions she loved hers! I want to come back and try the street tacos! Had a margarita on the rocks and it was not great. Give this place a try. You make like it. I was told that the food is traditional Mexican so maybe I just prefer a different style of Mexican. But the staff was amazing!!!!

My husband and I chose Carmen Y Juan Mexican restaurant at random on a trip to Mount Pleasant. Oh, I'm so glad we did! The restaurant itself is so charming and super clean. The waitstaff is awesome, and the food was absolutely delicious! From the fresh, delicious chips and salsa to our dinner! My husband had fajitas, and I had street tacos. we loved everything we ate! Prices were very reasonable. Next time we're in Mount Pleasant, we will be sure to enjoy another meal there, and you should too!!

I lived in Southern California for many years and had the privilege of enjoying some of the best Mexican food around. After moving to the East Coast in 2012, I was disappointed to find very few places that came close—until we moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2019 and stumbled upon Carmen y Juan’s.

It quickly became a family favorite, and for good reason. This is hands down the most authentic Mexican food you’ll find in the Charleston area.

I love Carmen & Juan, they have the real mexican homemade food and atmosphere. When my kid was little I always choose them because I knew they have the cleanest kitchen and natural ingredients in the area, and as a plus, they treat you as you were part of the family. 100% recommended!
