We decided to try this restaurant because so many friends have told us to go. We had the most amazing young kids waiting on us! So impressed. All of the waitstaff were young high schoolers and they were all so friendly! They smiled and were attentive! We started with chips and queso. Loved the chips. Queso was on the watery side. I have to say my food was ok. I had the enchiladas and they were served with red sauce, beans and rice. The enchiladas were good but the red sauce made the rest of the dish very soupy. I didn’t eat the refried beans or rice. My daughter had the steak and onions she loved hers! I want to come back and try the street tacos! Had a margarita on the rocks and it was not great. Give this place a try. You make like it. I was told that the food is traditional Mexican so maybe I just prefer a different style of Mexican. But the staff was amazing!!!!

I lived in Southern California for many years and had the privilege of enjoying some of the best Mexican food around. After moving to the East Coast in 2012, I was disappointed to find very few places that came close—until we moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2019 and stumbled upon Carmen y Juan’s.

It quickly became a family favorite, and for good reason. This is hands down the most authentic Mexican food you’ll find in the Charleston area.

I love Carmen & Juan, they have the real mexican homemade food and atmosphere. When my kid was little I always choose them because I knew they have the cleanest kitchen and natural ingredients in the area, and as a plus, they treat you as you were part of the family. 100% recommended!

We needed a break from seafood and hoped to find a “real” Mexican restaurant. This one is definitely the real deal. Everything was fresh and homemade. Great service and portions. Good and fresh-tasting food with plenty of different sauces and accompaniments to suit your personal taste.

Had a great home cooked Mexican dinner, outside & decent weather, very few bugs but they did have bug spray also great service & server was very attentive for sitting outside, clean & family atmosphere but school day for our lunch so no children but looked very family oriented. Moderately price & nice portions. My bride couldn’t eat all her food.

Had a wonderful meal, as always. Carmen and Juan are hands on owners - cooking, serving, bartending, and cleaning. Have always loved the authentic food here!
