My wife and I had lunch at The Shelter Kitchen. There were very few people there on this Tuesday at noon, It took awhile for a hostess to appear, but she eventually came and said to sit anywhere.

The BBQ chicken quesadillas and the Holy Mother Clucker Chicken Sandwich were generous-sized and delicious. The sweet potato fries were good, but the fried okra was disappointingly fried pickled okra, and we didn't eat much of it. I think that should be described...
Not impressed. Food was mediocre. I had a burger and it tasted odd. Special sauce that came with it did not help it either. And their ketchup was gross tasting. Friend had a margarita, she said it tasted off and didnt even finish it. Service was poor and extremely slow. We were literally the only people in the restaurant when it opened at 11am on a Thursday. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
Fiancé and I met Liam on our first trip to Charleston. Having come back multiple times and finding him taking care of Shelter, it meant so much to the both of us to be able to reconnect with him at this incredible staple of Shem Creek. Shelter has truly become our home away from home; the food, drinks, quality, environment, and staff have made us feel so special every time.
