I recently visited Myrtle Beach SC. I goggle black owned restaurants because I had heard that SC had great soul food. When I goggled up popped Big Mike’s and Simply Southern. I wanted to visit for a real homemade Thanksgiving dinner. Big Mike’s was closed so the next one on the list was Simply Southern. We went and there was a wait list. So we waited. The line was extremely long. We finally was called in after waiting about 20 minutes which wasn’t bad at all for it being Thanksgiving’s day. The restaurant is buffet style. The food was mediocre. I consider myself a gourmet cook so I know good food and what’s in it. The turkey and peach cobbler was the best thing I had. The mashed potatoes were not 100% real although they tried to convince me that they were. As I was sitting there looking around I noticed something that I’m not going to elaborate on. But the restaurant is not black owned which is what we were looking for and although they do serve southern dishes I felt deceived that they advertise under black owned business when it’s not black owned. Because of this I left feeling a little deceived.

I have given this rate because the food I ordered was not their best work. The fried chicken and BBQ chicken were on point. The corn was mushy, and the mac and cheese were not their. The corn bread was really stiff and no flavor. I have eaten here before, and the food was amazing. But this time, I was shocked that it wasn't. I spent over 15.00. I don't like to waste my money. This time, it was a waste of money for the quality of the food that I'm totally disappointed this time. This place is normally not like this, I was wondering if they changed their cooks. If so, bring the old ones back.

The food is exactly what someone who loves you would cook for you.
Outstanding quality and flavor for money.
The cabbage made me tear up, it was like my grandmother was here and cooking in the back.
Everything perfectly finished and flavored.
The staff is a delight.
Will return time and time again.
Especially for Ms Teresa!
*and anyone who says different is pompous and self important and should move to Texas if their turkey is so great.

I ordered fried turkey--they gave me smoked turkey, and they refused to make it right. My instructions were clear. I told them I would pass the word to other potential customers. They did not seem to care. Caveat emptor: if you are considering ordering from these people this is what you may encounter. If you are going to deal with them, I suggest you order on line rather than over the phone and keep a copy, so they cannot deny what you told them.
As far as the quality of the smoked turkey is concerned, and recognizing that tastes may vary, my own impression was that their product is not very good. It does not retain the smoke flavor, and was cut up into chunks rather than sliced. The gold standard for me is Greenberg turkey out of Texas, which has a nation wide reputation and can be purchased on line. If you intend to order on line, that is a superior alternative, in my opinion.
