This is by far one of the best restaurants in town. The best service, food and appetizers. I have helped the owner for 17 years and have meet some of the friendliest folks at dinner. I enjoy helping and love the waitress and owner. We dine here very often and have always gotten a friendly welcome. When you drive a hour for dinner, it must be a great place.

Worst restaurant experience ever! I was looking forward to a great experience at Cabana Café and the opportunity to support a downtown business in Newberry County. However, the excitement abruptly ended once I entered the restaurant. To be time efficient, we made reservations for a large group consisting of 21 people, reviewed the menu and selected lunch choices in advance. I visited the restaurant the day before our scheduled luncheon to confirm the reservation and to take our detailed written lunch orders. On the day of our reservation, our large party was not greeted warmly and was told by the owner (Starr Chappell) that we could not use the written lunch order list to order meals when dining in the restaurant due to how orders are inputted in the system and assigned to seating arrangements. This was not a significant problem and we proceeded to order meals with the owner who was visibly irritated and extremely rude to members in our group.I talked to the owner privately to resolve any issues to no avail. She continued to be rude and unprofessional, and it was evident that she did not value our group as customers, so we left.Based on this experience, the negative reviews referencing the rude, unprofessional attitude of the owner at this restaurant and her other facility in Clinton are warranted.

Best Restaurant in SC, bar none. Anyone that goes to this restaurant and has a bad experience is most likely because they entered with an entitlement attitude or thought this was the local Mickey D’s.We’ve never had a bad experience or a bad meal. The owner and staff are phenomenal. Great service and great food. In fact it’s so good that we drive over an hour to go there every Friday night.

For dinner, if you want a ribeye that is as big as the plate and cooked to perfection, Cabana is the place to go! The baked potatoes are fluffy and loaded with all the good stuff. One of my other favorites on the menu is the shrimp and grits. For lunch try the Zanzibar and sausage-corn-chowder soup. The owner and staff have always been super friendly and absolutely professional. My favorite place to dine in or take out!!

My employer made reservations at this establishment to celebrate the end of our summer session and retirees. Upon entering the restaurant, the owner met us with hostility. She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. We attempted to look past her initial behavior in hopes that our experience would get better. Because we had a large group of roughly 18 people we tried to be courteous by proactively having our orders ready prior to coming. The owner did not appreciate this and said so repeatedly with a very derogatory tone. She spoke to our director harshly, advising her that she didn’t need her to do her job. My director, conducting herself in a professional manner, attempted to communicate that she was in no way trying to take over her job, but be helpful because we had a large party. She was not receptive and continued to speak rudely to our entire party. As I was ordering, she interrupted me to tell me I was giving her the order incorrectly. I relayed to her that it was my first time there and I wasn’t very familiar with the menu. “Well you can look at it,” she said. Eventually, our director spoke with her privately to express our horrible experience thus far. The owner was not at all apologetic. Therefore, our director made the decision to take her business elsewhere. So sad that she didn’t not value our group enough to provide us the service that all customers deserve!

Owner was very rude, we had a group of 25 of all races. I'm not sure if it was an issue with race, a large group or what. We had a reservation and we were not being loud or anything. We were the first and the only ones in the restaurant anyways. The lady was rude over the phone, but we had thought it was just some worker, then the lady was rude right off the bat when we got there. Then we found out it was the actual owner that was being so rude. She could care less for our business for whatever reason. I hated it for the waitress, she was real sweet, but lost a large tip because her manager obviously didn't care about doing her right either. We ended up leaving and going to The Palms where the food was just as good and HALF the price, and the waitresses were great!

I went to this establishment with a large group from work. My supervisor had made the reservation weeks in advance. The restaurant was contacted and given the order of each individual person the day before and upon arrival the owner advised the group that she didn’t know owner was rude to my supervisor and to my coworkers. While taking orders the owner was extremely rude to the group. We were in a largely diverse group consisting of teachers of the school district and retired teachers. After my supervisor was advised multiple times that the owner was being rude, she attempted to speak with the owner. The owner became irate. My supervisor decided to take the group The Palms, where the group was welcomed with open arms.

This was one the worst experience ever in a local restaurant in downtown Newberry SC - Cabana Cafe. The owner ,inwhich was our waitresses was very rude, impatient and unapologetic for her actions. We attended as a large group of Newberry County School District employees and retirees. In hopefully of an enjoyable outing, but it did not happen at Cabana Cafe. After receiving the unwelcoming experience, we immediately left and carry our business to the Palms in Newberry where we were welcomed as soon as we arrived. The staff instantly accommodated seating for their guess. Great Sevice with ,Great Food!! A not so good experience turn into an amazing ending. Thanks to our wonderful Director Mrs Kinard and the NAE staff. Palms and Laylas Place for the delicious desserts?

Had a clam chowder bread bowl. Best chowder and bread bowl I've ever had.

Great atmosphere and comprehensive menu. Very impressed with their "house" wine by the glass, which are priced in line with bottle pricing so purchasing by the glass allows you to have more variety with your meal. I would describe the Oysters Rock as the cleanest, prepared with precision and detail. The bacon wrapped filet was excellent, possibly the best steak we have had, prepared medium rare. The shrimp and grits were too rich for my taste. I should have gone for their shrimp specialty dish. All meals are served with bread, soup or salad and a side, likely a loaded baked potato. You will not leave hungry. But if you desire, they offer dessert. Reservations are strongly recommended. We were seated precisely at our reserved 7:30 slot. The place was packed until 9:30. Due to staffing challenges, I believe we were served by the owner/manager. Service was still excellent, although you could tell it had been a busy day. Overall, great food and service. What a blessing to have a beautiful local restaurant in Newberry!

My husband and I had a delicious meal here on Oct. 27. The chicken salad appetizer is outstanding. The steak and lobster I had with the Cabana rice was one of the most delectible meals I have had. I highly recommend. What a little gem of a restaurant this is!
