After many many years in North Charleston, the Idle Hour is now closed for good. The building will be sold and not sure what will go in it's place. Sad. Went there in high school for lunch, back in the 80s.

We've loved the Idle Hour since we started going there about 20 years ago. It's still owned and operated by Dolly, she's pretty much a North Charleston icon. If you want local, casual, reasonably priced food, this is a great place to go. We like the daily specials (ham, lima beans & rice, souhern style cabbage, mac'n'cheese, etc) and their chili burgers are really good! Don't be expecting trendy farm fresh. But do expect a very tasty meat and sides plate kind of like the 50 somethings in the south grew up on so it takes you back home

My son & I just recently found this cute lil gem. After two failed attempts at going, the third time was a charm! Dolly is the sweetest, so welcoming & personable. Sad that I just found it but will definitely be a Regular for now on. We had the chilli cheese burger which was super yummy. Any recommendations on what to try next?

The food is always good. Great Blue Plate daily special. The chili dogs and hamburgers are made the old fashion way. Ms Dolly and the ladies that greet you are always friendly and make you feel welcome. Best sweet tea in town. One of the original restaurants on Montague.
