The food wasn't good. The brisket looked like slop. The server was nice and it was her first night alone 😔
The bar tenders took Forever to make our drink and it wasn't even busy.
I might would try during first shift because 11 pm wasn't hitting.

The picture of the brisket looks as unappealing as it tasted and I couldn’t eat most of it. The collard greens were spicy which I had never had before but made them much worse. The potato salad was ok. They were out of French fries, mashed potatoes, and a few of the beers we wanted. Our server was nice, but didn’t know anything the menu and couldn’t answer basic questions. Maybe they were just new?

Really disappointing experience… probably the worst service I’ve had living in Charleston. We waited over an hour for all food, which was the least of the problem. We were informed upon request for our missing side that they had run out, but no plans to tell us. Also, never received an ordered dessert. Worst thing was the banana pudding either has chunks of butter OR super beaten cream that is was forming butter? Either way, it was pretty off putting and simply not worth the money. I feel bad that this was the first bad tip I am about to leave in my life….

Ok I really tried hard not to do this but I ordered a door dash order from them today and when I got the order the ribs smelled up the whole office! They smelled like feet and a pigs backside! I drove there so they can correct the
mistake and same thing. I went home sat the food in the bag on the table and my kids came home and was wondering what the smell was and I told them to sniff it out. They immediately went to the food from Southern Roots! They selling bad ribs! BEWARE!

Disappointed. They were so good before the remodel. Visited them last week and it was just not good. It was edible, but just that. We didn’t even take our leftovers. I ordered bbq nachos and everything on it was cold. The cheese and the meat included. The sauces have changed also. Don’t think I’ll be back.

I ordered from Uber eats the bbq chicken and a tea. The tea did not arrive and was not even on the receipt. The chicken was way over cooked. To much to pay for food that is barely edible.

Service was great. Food was nothing special, but good. Brisket wasn't as good as I expected.

Initially, I was disappointed that they chose to move to this location in Park Circle, but I was impressed after the Smash Burger and Waffle Fries. I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible quality of the burger. The ground brisket was exceptional, and the sauce on top was absolutely delectable.

“Southern Roots”. New location & new staff. Not for the best. They took their most popular meals off the menu & don’t dare ask the politically correct bartender about it. Have been there twice. First time bartender said she was a vegan. 2nd time the bartender was visibly annoyed when asked about the old favorites and spoke so fast that it was a overall turn off. Food’s decent enough and that’s about it. Probably won’t go back again.
Nothing “southern” about it— or Park Circle anyway. It’s known for its…unapologetically PC NYC/Philly mindset.

Was not too impressed with this place. I have samples BBQ from St. Louis to Texas and back here to Charleston and everything in between. This joint doesn’t crack the top 20. Sorry... I do also recommend trying it for your self, but don’t get your hopes up. Not impressed with portion size and quality of meats.

I decided to give Southern Roots Smokehouse another try, but unfortunately, my experience hasn’t changed much. It’s still very average. The fries in my to-go order were soggy and so under-seasoned they’d disappoint even the most unadventurous palate. The mac and cheese was cooked well but, once again, lacked flavor. That same lack of seasoning extended to the ribs, which tasted like they were prepared for someone who thinks mayonnaise is spicy. Overall, I can only recommend this place if you’re in the mood for extremely mediocre BBQ.

Service was extremely slow. With all the barbecue restaurants in the area, this is not the most flavorful.

New to the state we have been trying different places and this by far was the worst food we have had. Had a Park circle punch drink terrible I don't know what it was, I've done many drinks with pineapple, coconut combo I don't know if the pineapple juice was bad I'm not sure. the brisket plate there was nothing but fat, brisket after cooked should only have about 1/4 of a cap of fat this was more fat than meat. The mac and cheese was hard as a rock and it tasted old. The southern smash drink too much ginger it was overwhelming and the pulled pork sandwich tasted like it was done in a microwave. We didn't say anything to management because if the management doesn't know what his food is tasting like the night he's working that's on them. When your manager and you walk past the mac and cheese or look at it and it looks old and hard and you can tell bad macaroni and cheese because the cheese on the top is hard as a rock then maybe you should do something about that. We just won't ever come back. $55 later and we went somewhere else to eat.

Waitress was super nice and very quick.
