This was our first stay with Clarks Inn, which came highly recommended from friends. When we checked in, weary after a day of traveling, the efficient but unwelcoming, borderline rude receptionist gave us a 2nd floor room. When I had made the reservation (well in advance) it specifically stated a downstairs king room. Feeling a bit intimidated by the receptionist I decided not to push the issue, we are older but still able to climb a flight of steps with our luggage. The room smelled a bit musty but was clean and homey. We enjoyed the restaurant next door for dinner. The breakfast that comes with the reservation was very good as well. When traveling we prefer to get up early to get ahead of traffic. The front desk and restaurant don't open until 7am which is a bit late for us. We would definitely dine at the restaurant again, but not sure we would stay at the inn.

This was the best dinner out we’ve had in a long time. Have to be honest … we don’t know which was better, the food or the service. Edgar was so on top of everything and helped to guide us to a wonderful meal. From the homemade corn chowder to the decadent desserts. We chose chicken dinners. One fried and one slow roasted. Both were excellent (tender and moist). Wonderful kale/garlic aioli sauce. Collard greens were great and I normally don’t like them. Redskin mashed potatoes. Green beans. Topped off with pecan pie and an apple crisp with a family recipe they’ve been making for over 60 years (topped with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream). Amazingly crispy toasted nuts and vanilla ice cream that demonstrates why you might actually choose only vanilla all the time. And Edgar, too. Just a wonderful dinner after over 6 hours on the road. Who better deserves it than we do. And don’t forget to spend time at their wonderful gift shop. Bought a present for a friend. And we might go back in the morning for some Christmas decorations. Sigh!

Room was very clean with a king size bed. Not like big box store hotels. Very quaint with pictures on the wall. We were in the pet friendly area and there was plenty of room to walk the dogs with cleanup bags and a can to collect their waste. The room included a free sitdown breakfast, which was delicious. We both ordered the biscuits and gravy and portions were very large. We ate dinner there the night before and loved the meal.

Claar is always a great stop. Getting off I-95 and having a good meal. I don't miss a chance to stop and eat here if I'm in the area. The inside is cozy and the food is always delicious and a real value. It is clean. And welcoming.

I visited Clark's Restaurant and Inn in Santee, South Carolina this August with my family while we were driving down from the DC metro area to Florida. We stopped over for dinner thinking it would be a quick meal, and while the food itself was quite good—especially the burger I ordered, which they kindly served with bacon on the side as requested—there were definitely some timing issues. My family had a mix of burgers, mac and cheese for the kids, and we tried the fried green tomatoes, which were just okay. The main drawback was that the service was pretty slow. It’s not the ideal place if you’re in a hurry, as we noticed some tables that arrived after us got their food sooner. So if you’re on a road trip and need a quick bite, a fast-food spot might be a better choice. That said, the ambiance was nice and the food was enjoyable, so if you're not in a rush and maybe looking for a place to relax or even stay overnight, Clark’s can be a charming stop.

Clark's Inn & Restaurant has been a family stopping spot for nearly 20 years now. The service and detail you receive at Clark's is unmatched.

Besides Santee and Clark’s being our favorite place to stop when traveling back and forth from Florida and DC it’s the staff that take it over the top at Clark’s Restaurant. You won’t get any better than Edgar who understands the weary traveler and children. He really should be at a five star restaurant.

We LOVE this place. Really beautiful old wood-trimmed place. So nostalgic but also simply excellent food. The famous fried chicken is —and deserves to be— legendary. Our server Edgar was enthusiastic and went above and beyond to meet every request!!

I ordered the flat iron steak with chimichurri, cooked medium rare, but was disappointed with the dish. The steak was unevenly cooked — some parts were very rare, others more medium — and the seasoning just wasn’t good. I only had one bite and didn’t eat the rest. The potatoes and green beans were fine, but nothing stood out. In fairness, I could’ve spoken up and let the server know, but I didn’t. That said, I handed back a plate with nearly all of the steak untouched and half the potatoes still there, and there was no acknowledgment or check-in. Even a simple question might’ve opened the door for me to share my concerns. Overall, it was a disappointing experience on my end. That said, I dined with my young adult children and they seemed to enjoy their food, so experiences may vary. The exterior of the restaurant is really charming, the gift shop is lovely and worth browsing, but the bathrooms could use a bit of updating.

During a recent stay in Santee we were able to get a reservation on Mother’s Day for Dinner. Service was very good and the Restaurant and Inn is so charming . We both enjoyed very good house salads and delicious Seafood Dinners.

We had a wonderful experience at Clark’s Inn. We were seated in a room that felt like a library. Cody and fun. The servers were wonderful for our group of 20 golfers. Our dinners were excellent. Perfect evening.

My wife and I recently stayed for a night in Santee, SC on our return home from vacation. While there, we had dinner at Clark’s Restaurant. This is a really nice old style restaurant with wonderful atmosphere. We felt like we stepped back in time when we walked into the restaurant. The service was good and the food was very good. We would recommend this eatery.

Clark’s felt like a step back in time. It was a beautiful restaurant. The staff members were all friendly and helpful. Our food was deliciously flavorful and looked as good as it tasted. Portions were large and filling. The gift shop was full of pretty homewares and gifts. I look forward to returning and think it would be fun to stay at the inn.

My husband and I stayed in Santee for the night as we headed up home from Florida. We searched for a place to eat in town (choices are sparse) and our hotel clerk recommended Clark's. Well, let me tell you- it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Each of us had a house salad that was full of greens & lots of salad veggies. I also had the roasted chicken for dinner and my husband tried the fried chicken. Both dishes were great! I had only had collard greens before but didn't like them, but I loved Clark's version. They absolutely melted in your mouth without being mushy. We also had the apple crisp for dessert and it was so yummy. Everything we ate here was so good & tasted like Grandma made it. If we lived near here, we'd eat here on a reg basis. As for where to sit, we got a corner table at the bar and the bartender and his helper were so nice and attentive. In the future, if we have another road trip, we think we'll bypass Florence and stay in Santee just to go to Clark's...
