This review is overdue. We visited Mex 1 Coastal Cantina this past October and stopped by for dinner. I ordered the two taco platter and chose Bangin' Shrimp and Baja Fish tacos. It was absolutely amazing. Our server was fantastic - I wish I could remember her name. Just a wonderful dinner. A few days later we were in the area again and went for lunch. We were greeted by the same server and both ordered the same entrees we had previously - they were both equally as good as a few nights ago and the server was just as fantastic. We will be visiting in about a month for a 3 week stay in the area and you can bet Mex 1 will be a frequent stop.

This is my GoTo place for the perfect frozen margarita and banging shrimp bowl or tacos. Mex 1, without a doubt, delivers deliciousness every time I go there…which is often, but who’s counting!Friendly, relaxed, with great vibe!
A great environment. There was lots of sports games playing. Service was quick, and the staff was attentive. We only ordered an appetizer and got drinks, but we enjoyed the setting. The margarita pitcher is delicious and great deal (they claim it fills 5 cups but it filled 7 for us). We also recommend the triple dip platter. I attached the photo below.

We loved our bar tender Stafford! Super funny and personable. We loved the fresh margaritas he made us. The other ones were too sweet. Highly recommend the bangin’ shrimp tacos and grilled Mahi Mahi tacos. Coming back again soon!

Mex 1 hosted our wedding reception & we could not say enough great things! The environment, the food, the drinks, the service was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Our guests were so impressed with the welcoming staff, how amazing the food was, & everyone who could drink said it was “the best frozen margarita” they’ve ever had. HUGE shout out to the managers, Sam & Jess, & ALL the staff from the back of house to the bartenders who shared dances with us at the end of the night. They could not be better at what they do & made us feel incredibly loved & honored on our wedding day. My husband and I had the best night of our lives & it could not have been possible without Mex 1.

We visited from Wilmington, NC. This place was easily the best Mexican food I have EVER eaten, and that says a lot. The server was absolutely great, bathrooms were clean, patio was breezy and perfect. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Wilmington needs to step up their game!Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly in so many ways and the sever was educated which makes a huge difference.Kid-friendliness: Great tall high chair for the patio seating!

This was my second time at Mex 1. I remember it being so great. Last night the beans/rice were cold and beans were undercooked and very dry. I asked for a margarita not too sweet and ended up with a $15 drink somehow. The fish tacos had the tiniest sliver of fish I have ever been served. It was laughable. I loved our waitress but the food was not good. For $120 for a family of four (kids meals are TINY) I will not be returning. Also, note that the menu and pricing differs by location. I did not realize that!
