A 4.5-star rating is not high enough for the experience I had at Halls Chophouse. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. This was a perfect dinner with no notes.

Let’s start with the ambiance. Stunning. Moody, romantic, old-school, and classy in the best way.

The drinks were also excellent. They were balanced, delicious, and thoughtfully made. After I told our server the type of drink I usually like, he had the bartender surprise me with something, and it was perfect. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned, and he absolutely raved about it.

The service was some of the best I have ever experienced. I don’t think my drink was empty once. Not a single detail was missed. Our shareable appetizer came with tongs, and the servers portioned the shareable sides for us so we didn’t have to. The owner, servers, runners, and managers were constantly checking in to make sure everything was just right.

Now the food. The highest praise in this entire review goes to the chef. Everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The calamari was fried perfectly, flavorful, and served with a great sauce. The shrimp cocktail was simple, fresh, and delicious, with avocado slices that were such a nice touch. The bread was tasty and kept us happy while we waited. The rack of lamb was delicious, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The ribeye and lobster tail were also cooked beautifully and seasoned well. The lobster mac was excellent, with nice chunks of lobster, great flavor, and it was not overly cheesy. The broccolini was perfectly cooked, not too soggy and not too crisp. I was completely stuffed, but I still had to try the bread pudding, and it was absolutely worth it.

I was only visiting Charleston to see a few friends for Fourth of July weekend, but I would come back just to eat at Halls Chophouse again.

We went for an early anniversary dinner. Everything was absolutely amazing especially our server Katie. She was extremely helpful when we had questions and made the evening so amazing. Also the food was the absolute best ever.

We had a wonderful meal thursday night, July 2 , but I’m giving a poor rating due to a safety issue on the second floor . Imagine having a beautiful meal, and you get up to go to the ladies room, and you have to cross this big huge cord on the floor , barely covered up with a flimsy throw rug, and the hall to get to the ladies’s room was dark. I mean, dark, so dark the waitstaff had to grab my hand while I almost tripped over the cord in the dark . It was an accident waiting to happen , and very concerning that such a fine establishment would allow such a thing . Would I recommend this place ? Not for anyone over the age of 50 or under the age of 10 or any guest having had more than 2 cocktails !! This needs to be fixed , the cord and the lighting situation !! I’m visiting from Florida , and my friend from Charleston , who dined with me was shocked to encounter this situation as well.

Went for dinner as soon as I didn’t order anything but water the service went downhill not only were we ignored for the most part I had 3/4 of my prime rib left and my husband about the same so we asked for it to go so we waited about 15 minutes until I stopped a manager she said she would check. Finally the waiter came out with a flashlight looking under table for it! I told him he never brought it! It was thrown in garbage so we were out all that money for nothing… never again I bet Billy would not like this customer service!! I was so mad after that we left after being ignored I had had it!!

A5 and Fillet tasted great, loaded potato, asparagus and salad were tasty although expected more for the service. The server seemed not much friendly and showed attitude when taking the orders. We were taking some time to think about the menu, but I felt rushing to decide the menu. When the dessert was served, the bill was also delivered together. Was it the right timing to bring the bill even before tasting the dessert at such upscale restaurant? Then, I and my colleague were still talking over the dessert, the server came to remind me that the bill was there. I felt like she was rushing me to pay the bill. I was somewhat appreciated that she was watching me when I couldn't see the bill because the lighting was pretty dark. She came and turned on some kinda lighting for me to see the bill although I was uncomfortable she was watching me to write the tip over my head. I said fine, so she went away, though. I did choose the Halls for nice dinner with my colleague and expected the Halls for top quality in foods and service. But this particular dinner that I spent more than 200 bucks, left me wondering if I made a right choice for upscale service. It was somewhat awkward and felt like fast food service rather than upscale classy restaurant. I left the table somewhat rushing in the end. Wish the service were more friendly and relaxing rather than rushing out. I could've enjoyed more if the service was more friendly.

We didn’t expect the sports bar atmosphere with TV’s on the wall, My wife and I went there expecting fine dining and was so disappointed. The place was loud and as I said a sports bar like atmosphere. For the prices they charge i expected better. $180.00 is extreme for a place like that. We visited the one on king street in Charleston before and we were well pleased.

My experience was not so good. I’m not a complainer but this experience was not worth the stars I gave. I made a reservation and wound arrived the host took me upstairs to be seated which there was no seats. After about after an hour I got seated. I was not able to take a pic or enjoyed myself on my birthday because everything felt rushed. As soon as they sat my meal down they flashed a flashlight in my steak which I felt like was unprofessional and rushed. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Hall's Nexton is just as good as the Charleston location! So glad they now have a spot in Summerville!

We came to Halls for my 50th birthday expecting a memorable dining experience, but unfortunately we left disappointed.

After hearing positive things and trying several other restaurants in the area, we had high hopes for Halls. I ordered the 16 oz Australian Wagyu, cooked medium, and my wife ordered the grass-fed filet, rare. When our meals arrived, I initially thought my steak looked fine, but after cutting into it I realized it was much closer to rare—almost purple in the center—while my wife's rare filet was cooked correctly.

I've had Wagyu many times and one of the things I enjoy most is how tender it is. This steak was the opposite. Even with a serrated knife, it felt like I was cutting through a tire rather than a premium cut of beef.

I politely asked for the steak to be cooked a little more. When it returned, I was surprised for two reasons. First, it appeared to be the same steak rather than a freshly prepared one, which is something I've experienced even at chain steakhouses when a steak is significantly undercooked. Second, it came back completely overdone. It felt as though the request had been taken personally, and the steak was cooked far beyond what I had asked for.

Service also fell short of what we expect from an upscale restaurant. Throughout the meal, used plates often remained on the table long after we had finished. We found ourselves stacking dishes to make them easier to remove, and our table was rarely cleared of crumbs between courses—small details that typically help create a polished fine-dining experience.

Overall, Halls did not meet our expectations, especially for a special occasion like a 50th birthday celebration. Unfortunately, this was a one-time visit for us.

All around a fantastic meal. Corn skillet was by far the best side. Will be back.
