Always Original Bakery

I ordered a $70 gluten-sensitive birthday cake for my daughter’s 13th birthday. I picked it up around 1:30 PM, had it in the refrigerator by 1:45 PM, took it out around 3:00 PM, and by 6:00 PM the cake had completely collapsed and split open while sitting untouched on my kitchen counter at normal room temperature. We could not serve it for her birthday.

This was not normal settling or a small cosmetic issue. This was a clear structural defect in the cake. A properly made cake, even a gluten-sensitive one, should be able to handle:
• brief refrigeration after pickup, and
• several hours at normal room temperature

without the layers bursting out or the whole cake falling apart.

The way this cake failed is what happens when the inside of the cake is too weak to support its own weight. With gluten-sensitive baking, you don’t have the same gluten “net” that holds everything together. That means the baker has to adjust the recipe – for example:
• use enough binding ingredients (like xanthan gum or similar),
• use the right balance of wet and dry ingredients, and
• add enough internal support for the layers if the cake is tall or heavy.

When that is not done correctly, the cake slowly pushes outward, the sides split, and the top collapses. No properly supported cake should split open and fall apart within a few hours under normal conditions. That is exactly what happened here.

I also tried to resolve this directly with the bakery:
• I was told the owner would be back in the early afternoon, so I called multiple times and my calls went straight to voicemail.
• When I called from a different phone number, someone answered right away.
• I was again assured the owner would call me that evening.
• I never received a call or an email back, even after sending photos and following up.

A $70 custom cake that collapses within a few hours under normal handling is a defective product, and the lack of response and follow-through from the owner is unacceptable.

My recommendation for anyone considering ordering an expensive custom cake from this bakery:
• Before you pay, ask exactly what their refund/return policy is if the cake collapses or is defective.
• Get that policy in writing (email, invoice, or text).
• If they are unable or unwilling to put their policy in writing, I strongly recommend that you do not proceed with the order.

I paid in advance in good faith, expecting a stable cake for my daughter’s birthday. Instead, we were left with a collapsed cake and no attempt from the owner to make it right.

Update:
Update: It has now been four days since I first contacted the bakery about my daughter’s birthday cake, and there has been no response from the owner at all. I clearly requested either a refund, a credit, or a remake of the cake via phone and by email and have received absolutely no follow‑up by phone or message. For a custom birthday order that failed and clear attempts to reach a resolution, this complete lack of response is unacceptable.

Heather really came through for my wife's birthday cake! Not only was it beautiful, but it was also DELICIOUS and moist! For a gluten-free cake, I was blown away by its quality! 10/10 will be ordering future cakes from here! If you've struggled to find a reputable bakery that knows their way around gluten-free treats without sacrificing the yum factor, Always Original Bakery should be your next go-to!!! And be sure to give their cake decorator creative freedom because she will NOT disappoint! ❤️

Drove hours to get there only to be closed on a Sunday. Their website and phone message said they were open. They really need to update when closed when different than their regular hours. We will never go back.

We stopped in here to get a little dessert after brunch. The lady who runs the bakery is super sweet and didn't bat an eye when I only ordered a cake bite. I highly recommend their banana pudding cake bites! It was so good and is the perfect amount of sweet. I would love to go back and try more of her desserts!

We bought savory parmesan and rosemary shortbread cookies, strawberry milkshake cookies,and a peanut butter cake bite. Everything was delicious and the prices are modest. We will be back!

For a while, I’ve been looking for a bakery that could provide vegan treats and I finally found one I ordered some vegan chocolate cupcakes, and I was not disappointed. I will be ordering again.

Needed a last minute gluten free cake for my mother's birthday and Always Original Bakery came through for us! We were able to get a 6 inch cake ($32) that feeds 6 along with 1/2 dozen cupcakes. Everything tasted great!
You can get a 1/2 sheet cake or a full sheet cake, but you do need to order that in advance.

Everything we bought from here was wonderful. If we lived here we'd be life long customer's.
