Latchstring Restaurant Reviews
I would recommend Lachstring Restaurant to anyone staying or passing through. Food is fabulous, staff is very friendly and accommodating and the views are beautiful.
Great breakfast this Sunday morning! Portions were plenty, service great and atmosphere wonderful...we will be back🤩
This is the first restaurant review I’ve written and while I feel terrible about I also know I will not be back to this restaurant or recommend it at this time.
I went here many times in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and fell in love with everything about it. Last week I took someone there raving about the location, service and food in spite of not being there for a long time. I was so disappointed.

Latchstring Restaurant offers excellent meals with great views of the canyon. The caramel roll is a must-try, covered in luscious buttery caramel sauce. The chislins and eggs breakfast is very good. Visitors can enjoy the cozy atmosphere and top-notch service. The blackened trout and garlic potatoes are wonderful, followed by a delicious warm apple pie and hot cocoa with Bailey's. The restaurant is dog-friendly, and guests can sit on the puppy patio, making it a pleasant stop for travelers. Many visitors have praised the outstanding food, quick service, and friendly staff, recommending a visit for anyone exploring South Dakota. The back patio offers a beautiful view of the cliffs and forest, perfect for relaxing with a burger or a beer. Located at the top of Spearfish Canyon, the restaurant provides scenic mountain views, and some guests enjoy sitting in bubble chairs with heaters, adding to the unique experience. The restaurant is open seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can choose between indoor seating or the outdoor patio with magnificent canyon views. The huge baked trout draped on a Garden Salad is highly recommended as a tasty alternative to steak or hamburgers, and the lobster dinner is exceptional value at $35 for two lobster tails with a baked potato and salad. The food and presentation often impress visitors, and the staff, including Kayla and Rachel, are praised for their excellent service during private events like reunions. After meals, guests can enjoy a short 0.75-mile hike to Spearfish Falls behind the restaurant, making it a worthwhile stop for travelers passing through the area.
