What a great place for breakfast! We followed recommendations and made reservations and after dining here I understood why. 1. The food is amazing 2. The dining area is a little small 3. The food is amazing We did visit during Custer's off season so we probably would have been ok without, but why take the risk? There are blankets at every table you can drape over your lap if you get chilly, my wife definitely took advantage of that and was so happy to have it. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and amazing. I ordered Custer's Last Meal and my wife ordered the Eggs Benedict. 🤤 So delicious. She said the Eggs Benedict was top 2 that she's ever had. Hjem's take on hash browns is unique and delicious, the fresh sausage patty was so good, heck, it was all good. Go experience this place for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

The reviews are reliable. we were pleasantly surprised at the attentive and not over the top staff. The atmosphere is great; small seating area that utilizes the space efficiently so that each table is cared for with perfect timing. i’m not lying when I say it’s like they read our minds with topping off coffee at the perfect times and the pace of food coming out was precise.
the main reason I came here was to write about the incredible latte that we ordered. perfect foam, temp, and ratio.

NEEDS A RESERVATION IN A SMALL TOWN! We visited this place expecting a pleasant experience but were sorely disappointed. We requested a table for four, we were told nothing was available for 2.5 hours despite multiple empty tables being available. The customer service was lacking, and it felt like we were not a priority.

AMAZING breakfast!! We did not know that reservations were recommended, but they squeezed us in and made sure we were taken care of. The staff is so friendly, the food was amazing, I would eat here every morning if I could! Absolutely recommend to everyone! We will be back next time we are in town!

What a great find in Custer! The rice pudding with strawberries, mint, almonds and just a touch of flaked salt is awesome. The service, hospitality, and atmosphere brought us back for more!
This was such a surprise given the rural and small town setting in the Black Hills village of Custer. Hjem is a gem and every element of our meal was delightful. Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had.

The food is excellent, I had Custer's Meal which is a great variety. The pancakes are great too. I'd say the coffee is shockingly bad though.
