Friendly, prompt service in a super clean dining area was followed by pure filtered water, real butter and real maple syrup on the best waffle I ever had with some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. It was super fast and super good. You can tell they use real ingredients. I asked them if they have a microwave in the kitchen and they said no. That does it for me. I will be back. Some folks complain about the price, but if you wanna save money, then go get a gas station burrito.

What an unexpected find in a small town! Hjem feels like a hidden gem — warm, beautifully designed, and with a menu that feels truly European. The atmosphere is calm and elegant, almost like fine dining but still relaxed and welcoming.
We had the Sweet Potato Quiche and the Lobster Benedict — both were excellent. The quiche was light and flavorful, and the Lobster Benedict was rich and perfectly balanced. You can really tell how much care chef Eric and his wife Camilla put into every detail.
Service was just as impressive — attentive, friendly, and genuinely professional. The entire staff made the experience even more enjoyable.
A place like this doesn’t usually show up in a small town — amazing food, gorgeous presentation, and really great people running the place. Definitely a must-visit, and it’s smart to make a reservation.

We’ve driven by Hjem so many times and finally got to try it out this weekend. It was amazing! We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day and all ordered something different. Two days, three people, six different dishes and they were all excellent. Can’t wait to try more!

We visited multiple times during our stay in Custer. This place was outstanding from the atmosphere, the owners welcoming you at the door , the phenomenal staff and of course the food! Best breakfast experience we’ve had in any state! I highly recommend the deviled eggs and lobster eggs Benedict. Reservations are recommended however the first visit we were accommodated as a walk in without too long of a wait.

We loved our breakfast experience at Hjem! The seasonal pumpkin spice pancakes were fluffy and delicious, the rice pudding was the best I've ever ever tasted, and the lobster eggs benedict were a delightful treat! The staff were unbelievably friendly, and the heavy cream in my coffee was the decadence I needed to start my weekend 😂😍
I've never had a better breakfast in my life. My wife had the walleye with a sunny-side up egg, carmelized onions and bacon, with a mint sauce. I had the Oktoberfest quiche... german sausage, gruyere cheese, hint of spicy brown mustard, topped with sauerkraut and crushed pretzels. In-credible.

If I could give this place 10 stars for everything, I would. The food was immaculately delicious, the staff was incredibly friendly, and it's cozy on the inside. My partner LOVED the gurgle water pitcher so we have one saved to order for our own house. It was also my partners first time trying lobster Benedict, he was floored. Buttery and flavorful! We will definitely be coming back again and again, bringing more family members with us to try this amazing spot!
