Yum! Great ice cream and waffle cones. Interesting flavors - a few I remember are lavender honey, cinnamon honey, bourbon caramel crunch, sage salted pecan. I think they have a few regular flavors (try the coffee!) and come up with others to keep it interesting. Well worth a stop if you're in the area.
Dairy-free Pumpkin Spice, need I say more? I will though, generous portions, reasonable price, excellent quality homemade ice cream, friendly service and yes it was delicious. My husband also had a cone of coffee ice cream and he was thoroughly impressed. Since he's a native Rhode Islander where coffee milk is the official state drink that is a huge compliment. Horatio's is the real deal, you've got to try it.
The chocolate was unique! Tasted more like a Mexican Chocolate flavor. Very good!
Horatio's ice cream is legit. They roll their own waffle cones while you're ordering your ice cream, and if you ask nicely, they've been known to sell a fresh/warm cone separately just to relish the beauty of a freshly made cone. Do yourself a favor and take the 10-20 hour drive from wherever yo live in the country and get some ice cream from Horatio's.
OMGOODNESS! What a great choice we made! My husband had been looking for coffee all day (you can’t get it on every corner like you can in Texas) and we stopped in Horatio’s after Crazy Horse, Custer Wildlife Loop and Iron Mountain. Ice cream was going to replace coffee until the lady behind the counter told us about the affogato!!! Best of both worlds! Cold coffee ice cream in hot coffee…who knew?! (Apparently lots of people 🤭). You should definitely try this if you stop in Custer, SD. I got a chocolate chip cookie because it was just like I like them…lots of chips and still a little gooey…and it did not disappoint.
Ice cream was good. Service when we went was lacking. Not very friendly.
Great spot with good flavors. Family of 5 got one single, 2 doubles, a Sunday and a triple scoop in a waffle cone for $32. It’s homemade and the portions are generous. I had the pistachio and it was filled with actual pistachios.
Not only tasty ice cream super tasty but the staff is wonderful, friendly, honest and thoughtful
This was our second visit to Custer all the way from New York on a cross country road trip in our RV. First visit we discovered Horatio's and was convinced it was the best ice cream we ever had. Second road trip- we were going to skip Custer to get home sooner- but the ice cream was our determining reason to make the visit, and we are so glad we did. Bought 2 huge tubs to take back with us in the camper! Coffee is my fav! If you are in the area- this place is a must!
Probably the best ice cream I’ve ever eaten! We tried six different pints while we were in town, five ice creams and one sherbet. I wish I had time to try more!

We visited three nights in a row! My go to is the ice cream cookie sandwich. Last night we tried the Lavender Honey ice cream. Delightful. I'd like more lavender but it was good.
They will not allow you to sample flavors. This is a no go for us, children need to try things before we spend money on it. Their reasoning was that it slows down the line, we were literally the only people in the store. Bad business plan IMO, like allow 2 or 3 samples per group at least.
Delicious
World’s best ice cream!
The best homemade ice cream in the hills! A good variety including a couple dairy free options. This stop will make the whole family happy!
