There is nothing about this place that we don't love. It has never disappointed us. Chef always takes us on a journey of our taste buds. Highly recommend
If going to Skogen Kitchen for the first time, do the Chef Choice option with the wine pairing. AMAZING and you won’t be disappointed. Definitely a 5-star experience!!
Fantastic meal. We had oysters, tomato salad, tartare tacos, risotto and a venison special. All of them outstanding. Service was excellent as well.

This is my husband’s and my favorite restaurant. Chef Joseph and his team go above and beyond to provide you a dining experience that feels like once in a lifetime food and service. We eat here for special occasions, and of the 15-20 times we’ve dined here, we have never had anything but an overwhelmingly positive experience. The food is elite, the team is so accommodating and kind, and I love the environment. The chef’s counter gives you a little peak into how their restaurant functions, and it’s so fun to watch their team work. They all seem to get along and have fun. Our only wish is that they had a second location in Rapid City so that we could eat here even more often. Kudos to skogen, Chef Joseph, and your team.

We had a great experience and meal at Skogen! They have a very good wine list, and we really enjoyed the octopus, lobster bun, egg ravioli, and steak tartare taco apps. Our table had a variety of entrees including the bison short ribs, the mushroom risotto topped with lobster, and the beef filet with a beautiful sauce and potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly! The desserts were also delicious especially the butter cake! To enjoy a restaurant in the hills that serves this level of food was wonderful! We will be back!

Really not much else to say than WOW. Had the Wagyu and I don't think I chewed it. It just melted in my mouth. Then I had the rum cake and it was divine. Both were balanced perfectly and everything on the plate made sense. Service was excellent too.

Was in the area for a birthday celebration, and decided on this place. Everything was absolutely amazing, from the friendly staff, fantastic service, and exceptional food. Everything looked really good, we chose the Fillet Mignon and the Salmon, along with a starter of roasted peppers, walnuts, goat cheese. Definetly recommended!

Really hard to articulate how good the establishment really is. I had the Duck Confit with the Foie Gras and I can confidently say that they both were the best I've had anywhere in the US. The staff was super friendly in the face of a full house with people who were hoping to get in and it's no wonder why. Great food is an art and an art that nourishes. Your art nourishes. Keep it up. You have something truly special at Skogen Kitchen

Oh my, this place is a hidden gem and TOP of the food chain (pun intended, LOL)! We asked a Custer local where to eat and were told this was the best place in the whole state. They didn’t exaggerate. Ordered the oysters and peppers for apps, risotto and salmon and bison short ribs for entrees, and butter cake for dessert. Presentation was amazing, everything was cooked to perfection, ambiance was fabulous. We were told it was difficult to get seated, but we were seated immediately without a reservation (albeit it was a slow weekend Friday in between some busy season dates). Reservations are highly recommended. It is a little pricey ($40/entree average), but well worth it if you appreciate fine dining experiences! We will definitely keep this restaurant on our return-bucket list. Thank you, Joe, your special place is truly amazing!

Gourmet bistro restaurant in Custer and right beside a C-store. Don't be fooled by the exterior, this is a first-class bistro restaurant. Real oysters for a starter; filet, veggie risotto; and braised bison for our table and everyone loved their meal. Basque cheesecake for dessert was top notch. Great service, too.
