I really hope the town of Custer appreciates the gem they have here. We had two different servers in Rapid City tell us to dine at Skogen so we knew we had to!The service was stellar and every course was outstanding. We were only sad we couldn’t eat one of everything on the menu.
This restaurant and experience is AMAZING. The owners are kind and generous. They are community members and invested in developing themselves and others around them. They are good to their staff and in return, their staff is excellent to customers. The atmosphere is happy and has a joyful vibe. Chef is very conscientious regarding ingredients used. Some of the poor reviews simply had to be trolls or jealous remarks. They do not resemble anything I have ever seen at this lovely establishment. Chef creates the menu and gives time and attention to flavors, combinations and details. We have had several special dinners here and I am lucky enough to slip in occasionally when they have room. If you are interested in good food, high quality service and wonderful taste… eat here.If you are hateful, angry or negative… I hope you drive on.
Just had the most enchanting evening at Skogen in Custer, South Dakota! ✨ From the moment I stepped in, excellence was infused into every aspect of my experience.Despite being late for my reservation, the hostess greeted me by name. Understandingly, I had lost my original table inside. However, being seated on their serene patio, with the perfect ambiance all to myself, turned out to be a delightful twist of fate that would get even better.Eric, my server, was attentive and detailed. I started with a glass of Malbec and had the pleasure of trying their latest feature. The starter, an herb risotto with parmesan, chives, tarragon, and even a hint of mint, accompanied by a poached duck egg, was a symphony of flavors.The main course, a Ribeye from Dakota Meat Company, adorned with asparagus, morel mushrooms, and a decadent hollandaise sauce, was an absolute masterpiece. The ribeye melted in my mouth, and yes, I indulged in every bit of that delicious fat (no regrets!).To complement the experience, I opted for a French press coffee, and then there was the cake... Oh my, that cake! Dense, textured, topped with a heavenly caramel sauce and caramel popcorn, it transported me to dessert paradise..Halfway through my meal, a lovely couple was seated next to me, and we quickly bonded over our shared love for the Skogen experience we were enjoying at the same time. Suddenly, I wasn't dining solo anymore; I was part of a wonderful, happy, well beyond satisfied group of 3 delighting in novel conversation over rare excellence.I'm completely enchanted by the time I spent at Skogen last night. If you've been wondering whether it lives up to the hype, the answer is a resounding YES. But words can't quite capture the magic—you simply have to experience it yourself. Trust me, it's every bit as excellent as you've heard and more. Don't hesitate, just go. ?

My husband and I visited Skogen kitchen for our anniversary and were blown away. The food was the best we have ever eaten. The staff was amazing…very friendly and attentive. The chef took the time to come out and talk to us. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Definitely a place to visit if you are vacationing in the area or are a resident of the Black Hills. We will be back!!

With all due respect to South Dakota, Skogen would do well in any major city in the US. The food, service, attention to detail, and ambiance are all just right. If you love good food, wine, and desserts (and who doesn’t?) you owe it to yourself to make a reservation at Skogen! Lastly, if there’s one or two people in your party, I highly suggest asking for the counter facing the kitchen, you get to see all the amazing dishes being prepared and it’s fun to chat with the kitchen staff along the way.

Go here to treat yourself, and you'll leave with the biggest smile on your face! Always top rated experience and food. Chef Joseph creates the perfect pairings in each dish. The sauce is usually the best part of every dish for me. The service is unmatched. They go above and beyond and truly make this the best fine dining experience. So many small details that take this place to the next level. Chris was our waitor the last couple of times, and he's top-notch.P.s. if they have truffles available, get them! I dislike truffle oil, but fresh truffles are amazing!
