Pillows were hard as a rock. Staff claimed rooms were unavailable to book for my parents, but when I called, they magically had rooms available. Extremely inflexible about providing us with an early check-in time, stating that they could call us day of, which was insane because that happened to be my wedding day and we did not have time for that. Rooms were also over-priced for the quality and friendliness of the booking staff.
We loved our stay at Sylan Lake Lodge. It was quiet and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. All of the staff was very friendly and our room was clean and cozy. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We will definitely plan to return!
What a beautiful, quiet location right in Custer State Park! Due to having our dog with us, my husband and I booked a cabin for our honeymoon trip, and we were very pleased. We had a small issue with our cabin on the first night, called the front desk and they sent someone over right away, and even offered to move us if needed (didn't end up being necessary). The fireplace within our cabin was adorable and so warm! The food served in the main lodge was delicious, and each staff member was accommodating and kind.
My only complaint was that the bathroom within the cabin was very small, and the shower was even smaller. However, this was not a deal breaker and we would happily stay here again!
Ok, the heater is wonky. The stay was magical. The lodge restaurant is amazing
Did not sleep there. I ate dinner. The food was excellent, service was great and the atmosphere superb.
The room was comfortable but not worth the price. There are almost no amenities so keep that in mind. And eat before arriving the restaurant is over priced and the food is cooked very poorly. The staff was friendly and helpful with directions and any other questions we had.
Beautiful place with beautiful views. In the heart of Custer State Park. The chef in the restaurant at the lodge was absolutely amazing. He went above and beyond to meet my dietary restrictions. The food was excellent. We will be back! Highly recommend!!
Sylvan Lake Lodge has it all. Beautiful building and location. Great food and friendly service. The surroundings tops it all. I hope to make it back for a longer stay.
Rooms are older, a bit outdated, dont have amenities you tend to find at other hotels, but its a cozy place and a great location
No room for 2 small suitcases, only one luggage rack, only 3 small drawers, no place for toiletries in bathroom, not even any towel hooks. Temperamental thermostat, difficult to maintain comfortable temperature. Awkward placement of TV on left wall of king size bed. No coffee maker.
Restaurantji Recommends
This is a great place to stay if you're in the Black Hills area. It's about 1 minute away from Custer State Park. If you dine here, I highly recommend the Salmon and an Old Fashion from the bar. You won't regret it.
The views were amazing! The dinner was perfect and Princess did a fantastic job.
Great place. Absolutely beautiful and very peaceful.
Beautiful area. Stayed in a cabin which was great except no wifi or cell service. Wish that had been known ahead. Restaurant good on Friday but not great on Monday. It is located on a very windy road so we stayed on property at night.
Great location in Custer State Park. Enjoyed the cabin and the restaurant. Wished we would have been here longer.
