The dining area was cold so we asked to sit closer to the fire but they said no. Two tables near the fireplace were open the whole time we were there. Other than that, service was great. Food was awesome. We ordered the Prix Fixe menu. Price was great. Portions looked small (4oz fillet) but ended up being just perfect.
If you're looking for high quality food in the Black Hills with service to match, go to Skogen, Tally's, Delmonico. Don't go here. What a disappointment. My boyfriend and I went here for the first time for my birthday dinner. It was a slow Sunday: 2 other tables when we got there for our 7pm reservation, and no one came in after. They close at 9, which we knew and knew it would take us no more than 2 hours to eat. It didn't; we left at 9. Boyfriend and I both work in restaurants - he works in the kitchen, I work as a server at a near-fine dining dinner place in Rapid City. Good: free bday dessert (I had the vanilla creme brulee which had a bizarre savory smoke aftertaste), and the server assistant/busser. He was wonderful! Attentive, clearing our plates often, filling our water, and offering to box things up for us. The server did none of this. I had 2 of their specialty cocktails, excited to be able to have a cocktail with dinner since few places in the Hills are able to serve liquor. 1 was too smoky, 1 was crazy sweet. I did not attempt to finish either. Bread and butter came out, warm and soft. We had the charcuterie and the SD chislic for apps: both enjoyable and felt worth the price. Then side salads, which were good - hard to mess up. But the entrees... I got the sea bass entree which I was SO excited for and my boyfriend got the $78 bison new york strip special. The bass was undercooked with an AWFUL texture. Served with 2 pieces of asparagus (bizarre) and 2 arancini, both fine. The bison, asked for medium rare, was truly raw in the center. These are solvable issues - but our server never once came over to our table to check how things were. Not for apps, salads, not the lemon sorbet palate cleanser, not the entrees. That is a server's job! We couldn't even see her, so my boyfriend started talking loudly about how bad the food was in hopes she might come over, but nothing. $260 for this, before tip.
As owner of a fine restaurant myself, I greatly appreciate high end dining. Jake's is one of the three best experiences in West River, and the best in Deadwood.
We were seated right on time the service was excellent and the food was also excellent. Five of us dined and each of us had something different. Everyone was very happy with there choice. Will be back!
My wife and I had tried Jakes for first time for our anniversary, some of the best food we have had in this area. The service was amazing even the manager came and asked how things were. It is a little expensive but well worth it!!
This was quite literally the best meal of my life. We had the wild game Trio and it was spectacular. I have eaten at Michelin restaurants around the world and this chef NAILED. Absolutely exquisite and exceptional cooking. The chef is an incredible asset to Deadwood, SD. Love this place!!!

What a gem, traveling across the USA and took a day off in Deadwood . This restaurant is lovely, great food, to die for house Old Fashioned, and the food was excellent. But the service and staff are the best part, beyond good. Very highly recommended.
Celebrating our 10th anniversary. The food was beyond excellent and the service was top notch. We look forward to our next visit. Highly recommend
We have dined at Jake's for over 25 years. Recently, they have gone through several ownership changes. During our most recent visit it appeared that they were short staffed and attempting to make do with the staff that was available. Our waiter was pleasant but timing wise we felt rushed at times and other times waiting. The sorbet was not served. Presentation by the Chef was good. None of the old staff was still there. Hope things can improve as it was once the premier dining establishments in South Dakota.
I’m vegan because of a disease I have, our waiter, Mo, went ABOVE AND BEYOND for me! I haven’t been THIS IMPRESSED by a waiter or place to eat in many years. If I could give more stars, I would. My husband and I WILL be back, thank you so much, especially to Mo!

Exceeded my expectations. Wonderful, professional service. Menu was a little limited but everything was great. Nice place for a splurge.
My wife and I both had the lobster dinner and were surprised at the amount of food we received. In a good way. During the meal I mentioned to my wife that I wish I knew how they seasoned and cooked the lobster because it was absolutely amazing. When heading to the elevator an employee asked how we like our meal and what did we get. I mentioned we had the lobster and it was phenomenal. The employee said he was glad to hear we enjoyed it and then explained the seasoning and exactly how it was cooked before heading back to the kitchen.
They went above and beyond to make a memorable meal absolutely unforgettable.
And it wasn't just the main course that was amazing. Everything that was food that came out the kitchen truly loved up to the fine dining in their title.
From this trip forward we will always go to Jake's at least once when in town.

Our host was very pleasant. The atmosphere was very nice. Our server Pagan was spot on, from the moment we sat down, to getting our drinks and food. Went there for our anniversary and will definitely go again if we are ever in the area. My husband had the trio of meats and stated that it was very firm but tender. Sweet potatoes were firm and delicious. I had the filet Oscar, and it was very juicy. We also shared the escargot and our server recommended the bacon wrapped scallops, very delicious. We also had for dessert a Apple Pie cheesecake, just made you feel like you were at home. A fantastic place to eat!
Food was wonderful! Atmosphere was beautiful! Service was so-so. Much different than our normal service from this great spot.
We were told by two local workers to try Jake’s, so we walked in around 7:45 pm. The host was welcoming and quickly found us a table. The restaurant has a nice, moody vibe, so I was looking forward to the meal.
The food itself was fantastic, and the cocktails were just as good. Unfortunately, the service is what made the experience less enjoyable. My husband ordered an appetizer along with our main dishes, but it never arrived. Instead, the salads that came with our entrées were served, and almost immediately after, the main courses followed. We felt rushed the entire time, with little chance to enjoy each course.
To make things worse, our server never checked on us except to drop off food. We weren’t asked if we wanted additional drinks, and the whole meal felt hurried and impersonal. I also noticed that other tables seemed to receive more attentive service, which made the contrast even more noticeable.
