We had eaten there about a year earlier and the food was delicious. This time the food was not good. The lobster and crab wontons for the appetizer was delicious but the macadamia nut crusted halibut was more like a breaded then deep fat fried pice of fish. More like dry bar food. My wife's pheasant gnocchi was so so. The pheasant was good but the sauce had almost no flavor at all. Stick with the steak if you go there

Amazing food and beautiful restaurant. The server clearly hated us though and that's ok. We were drunk and celebrating life. It's been 15 years since we all seen eachother. But maybe have another server around that will deal with a table they don't want to serve.Had the Tomahawk, I'd recommend.

Jake's, fine dining...waited 50 minutes before we were served our wine, which came 20 minutes after our appetizers. At every chance the waiter tried upselling to the next pricier item with careless regard to our opinions. One point in the meal the waiter shushed me while I requested more water (That had been empty for 20 minutes and two visits from him), then proceeded to forget the water entirely. They attempted to take multiple plates away from us while we were still dining to move us on with the next course. Honestly the food was good, but arguably the service of “fine dining” should be impeccable, and the service here was atrocious. I've had better, more genuine service at dive bars. Will not be returning and will not be recommending Jake's to anyone.

I was excited to learn that Jake’s was open again. My husband made reservations for our anniversary. We got to our table and they left a card for us; it was a really nice touch. We ordered the crab and lobster wonton as an appetizer. It wasn’t much more than a frozen appetizer we could get at the grocery store. For dinner, I decided on the pheasant gnocchi, expecting a warm and savory dish. Unfortunately, The dish was lukewarm, and overpowered by canned, stewed tomatoes. The pheasant was dry, squash undercooked, and the flavors didn’t match well at all. I took about three bites but didn’t finish it.The server offered to comp a dessert but with five different crème brûlée options for someone who’s not a fan of crème brûlée, I politely declined (they did have other options but at this point, I was already immensely underwhelmed). Our server just flipped her hair said “Ok!” and left the check. One would expect for a $44 dish, that at least a portion would be removed or the manager would come to apologize.Overall, the atmosphere was good, but it just isn’t what it used to be. We were in and out in under an hour. Gone are the days of fine dining in an establishment that used to honor gastronomy but is now nothing more than casual dining for a really high price. I can’t say that we’ll be back, which is unfortunate.

The experience started out well. We waited a few minutes on the couches next to the fireplace until our table was ready. When ready our coats were taken and we were escorted to our seats. An anniversary card was on the table waiting for us from the restaurant. It was a nice touch. The server was friendly enough although not very personable. When we started to get our meal is when things started to go downhill. The lobster and crab wonton appetizer was tasty, but there was very little meat in the wonton. The salad was fine. The halibut was tasty although the pineapple sauce which cover the plate soaking into the halibut and the spring roll was over-powering. It worked well for the Halibut as the flavor of the fish and the sauce went well together. I felt the spring roll was very bland even after soaking up the sauce which didn't pair well with it. My wife had pheasant gnocci. The pheasant was dry, and the entire plate soaked in stewed tomatoes. There were some good ideas behind these dishes, but the flavor profiles were not well thought out and the food was definitely sub-par as a result. I used to love Jakes when the meals were well put together and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Now, it is casual dining at a fine dining price.

My wife had the Filet Oscar and it was perfect. I had the the Triple Tender Loin consisting of Buffalo, Elk and Venison. The venison was outstanding, the elk was a little dry and the buffalo was good. We had the Lobster Wonton for an appetizer and cheesecake for dessert. Overall a great experience. We'll be back.

Best food in western South Dakota. The service was impeccable, the food was outstanding, and the atmosphere was appealing.

The food was very however they forgot to serve part of a plate and had to ask. We had a nice bottle of wine with dinner and order dessert and the bill came with it. Very clear they were ready for us to go. We were only there for an hour and 1:15. Had to ask for them to cork the bottle so we could leave. Wife said she probably would not come back. To summarize, the experience we got on the front side was excellent and personal. The experience on the back side was abrupt and impersonal.

Very very good. But not haute cuisine as they maintain. Perfect setting. Gracious service. Food prepared by those who know what they’re doing.

NEXT LEVEL EXPERIENCE! Amazing! One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Top-notch service. Awesome location and atmosphere. Wow! Highly recommend for a fancy dinner. This is in the top floor of the midnight star right on Main Street, so it’s a bit “hidden” but relatively easy to get to.The food was amazing. I had short ribs (it was a special so not always available) and they were decadent. They were fall-off-the-bone tender and rich with flavor. The cheesecake was some of the best I’ve ever had too. It wasn’t overly dense as cheesecake can be, but was instead fluffy and delicate yet still rich and creamy. The plating and presentation of our whole meal was some of the best I’ve experienced. Immaculate care was taken to ensure a meal that was first a presentation. Finally, service was awesome. Our waiter was attentive, helpful, and warm.Highly recommend!!!

Our server was as helpful as can be. I also got reservations for this dinner for my boyfriend's birthday. They wished him happy birthday with a great card and saved a cheesecake slice just for us. The dinner was delicious! I'm not a steak person due to personal reasons but I got a medium rare filet mignon and it was fantastic! Couldn't get enough of it. Thank you guys for a great last night in Deadwood!

The food was exceptional! Filet Oscar was so delish. Kudos to the chef! Beautiful dining room. The night ended w/ a round of champagne ringing in the New Year! We'll be dining at Jake's again in the future.

Great food. Steak was buttery soft and tasted wonderful. Our waitress was nice but not super attentive. With as much as you are paying for the food, she never refilled drinks, we always had to ask. Also never came to ask how food was.
