I rarely ever leave a less than positive review however, even after giving it over a month, I've decided I need to share my experience.
Previously, I had given them a 5-star review. Their ice cream is truly one of my favorites in the world! Plus I love supporting local businesses.
I used to always try to stop there when I could and show anyone I was with how amazing it was. And I find myself sadly avoiding them now.
In July, my family of 6 and our friends (family of 2) had spend most of the day at the lake. On our way back to Rapid City, I was excited to be able to treat our crew of 8 to ice cream. Each person's treat was at least $10 for 2 scoops of ice cream. I was ok with that. And the owners made sure I was aware of what the cost was - which I did appreciate.
I also love to tip and try to tip generously. So even though all they did was scoop ice cream for 8 people, I did tip 18%. So our bill was almost $120. Again, I was fine with this. It's a treat and supporting a local business.
It was also an incredibly hot day. There is no seating inside. We were sitting at their spots outside, in the 100+ degree heat with 5 kids. One of the kids ice cream was melting much faster than he could eat and his cone was failing. I knew it was only a moment before this expensive ice cream cone would end up on their ground. Sad kid and messy for the business.
The owners were working behind the counter. I went in, they remembered me, I explained the situation and asked for a small dish to prevent the issue.
They said it would be 50 cents. I was in a swim suit and cover with only a card. I explained that also.
I asked if they had a free water cup. They did not. I asked if I could put the 50 cents on my card. They said its a $5 min. purchase. They were offering zero solutions. Finally, I was like, I just tipped you almost $18 for scooping ice cream, can you use 50 cents of that so I can have a cup to keep a kid from crying and sticky mess from happening on your patio?
Grudgingly they obliged. But it shouldn't have had to go that far.
They should have indoor seating for hot days or more flexibility for situations like this.
As a life long member of this area, the midwest service expectation was not there and it was incredibly disappointing.
So I guess, if its hot, buy some cups. They do not have any free ones. And they don't care if you tip them almost $20 for scooping their product.

I’ve seen some complaints about rude staff. I’m not sure what caused this, but the service was amazing for us. We were given a very friendly greeting and a brief introduction on all the products, with everything being homemade. After ordering, we received some of the best ice cream we’ve had. The flavors were great, two of us had the Buffalo Chip, coffee with chocolate chips, and loved it. Everyone else was satisfied with their flavors too, we all agreed that the taste and texture was phenomenal. The prices are reasonable and the serving of ice cream for the waffle cones, which were also great and surprisingly flavorful, was very generous. Overall, some of the best ice cream we’ve had with good value and great service, this was significantly better than all of the nearby ice cream and deserves a try from anyone in the area.

The ice scream here is very good. My family and I had been here last year. The AC wasn't working, but the owner was super nice. Last year, she gave us samples to taste. Even though it's spending, the ice scream was amazing.
This year, we were excited to come back as returning customers. As we arrived, it was super busy. The AC still wasn't working. As we tried to get into the door, the owner was very rude to my son, telling him to shut the door. The AC was having a hard enough time as it is. I asked for a sample, and she snapped at me and said that she didn't do samples. She said to me, " You told me you were here before, You should have known this." I responded, "Yes, last year on our vacation. We are returning customers." I then asked to have the wonderful mint chocolate chip that I had last year. She replied that she didn't have it.
My husband was so upset by her behavior that we left. We went across the street to Turtle Town. They had AC that worked. Places to sit. Friendly staff. Allowed samples, and the cost for my family of 5 was $37.00 compared to the $50.00 plus that we would have spent here.
We will never be back here. The worst service EVER!!! However, they do have really great ice scream..it is homemade. It's just not worth the attitude ?

Today my daughter had tee ball game in hill city, but it was cancelled due to rain and hail shortly after we arrived at the field. She was pretty bummed out so we took her for some ice cream. While we made our order the rain turned back into hail. I asked if my very pregnant wife might use the restroom Before we dash thought rain and hail, and was told “ no, but the gas station is across the street”. The ice cream was excellent best I’ve had in the hills, but I won’t be back. Who tells a pregnant woman they can’t use the restroom.
