Get it before it's gone. This is the best cut of fish you can get anywhere in the Midwest. Certainly one of the best family-owned spots you can get to in the US.

If it was just based on food, this place would be top notch. But a respectable BUSINESS does not take an hour to serve 2 rolls. I came here an hour and 30 minutes before work and I kid you not when I had 20 minutes left to drive to work and my food still hasn’t come out, I was fed up and asked to leave. The entire time no updates, no refills on water. Literally felt put on the side while the bigger tables had the priority. I had asked to leave and pay for the only thing that came to my table which was an appetizer and the guy had the GAUL TO SAY THEY WERE ALMOST DONE WITH MY ORDER, THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR IT, AND PROCEED TO MAKE ME WAIT 10 MORE MINUTES LIKE THEY WERE TRYING TO SPEEDRUN THE ORDER. I had come a few times and noticed they only had 3 consistent employees, the elderly couple and a young man with glasses, perhaps a relative? Besides that employees serve a week and they are gone. Can’t find good help? Or the compensation isn’t enough? If you allow your customers to wait that long and STILL expect them to pay for a meal that I had to take which I didn’t want anymore because I was so pissed at trusting them to do things in a timely manner, I can’t imagine how you treat your employees.

This is the 25th anniversary of Sioux Falls’, first Japanese restaurant. It’s the only authentic Japanese restaurant in town, owned by Japanese people. For the life of me, I can’t understand why someone would go to a Japanese restaurant owned by Chinese or Thai. Would you go to an Italian restaurant owned by Egyptians?
Compared to my home state of Florida, this place is super inexpensive. The fish is actual sushi grade, flown in from Miami. I’ve only been to this restaurant twice, in these many years, but it’s a gem. I wish it was in my town.

on one hand, this is the only place in sioux falls you can get okonomiyaki. on the other hand, the entire business model of this establishment hinges on the manual dexterity of two elderly japanese people, so u better bring an ipad with a martin scorsese film on it because you are gonna be WAITING waiting.
Dietary restrictions: Alot of the food on the menu include pork but you can ask for that or anything else removed ((:

My sister and I are from out of town (Florida) and ordered 2 side salads, but received 3 salads (2 side salads and 1 large entree salad)which they would not take back). The salads were soaked in a ginger dressing that tasted awful (so we couldn’t eat it). We ordered 3 rolls. They arrived and the fish looked passed its prime, a roll with rice on the outside was sloppy (it looked like a kid rolled it), and it was was soaked in white (not Japanese) mayo. We did not eat any of the food we ordered, which the waiter was unfazed by (most likely this has happened before). He brought us our check, we said goodbye, and left without touching the old sloppy sushi. We never complained (until this post). I think we are better off for not eating the sushi. I wouldn’t, but if you visit the restaurant, order cooked food.
This is the most authentic sushi restaurant in Sioux Falls.

I ordered the Isope and it was nothing like I thought I expected. After a few bites I ordered something else. The miso soup was cold and had potato and onion in it. I paid for it myself (manager did not want to refund but I was okay with it) my stomach hurt the next day. Spent the day throwing up in the bathroom. ?

So far the best sushi in Sioux Falls. The quality of the fish is just so much better than the other places in Sioux Falls. Had the two tone sushi combo of tuna and salmon, just wow. Nice large pieces of fish on top of sushi rice. I would say they provided 50% more fish than the normal sushi places in town, and the flavor was spot on.A little expensive for an everyday kind of restaurant, but a great special date night kind of a place. Average cost $30-40 a person I would sayNote, this is a small mom and pop location, so seating is very limited.

***THIS IS THE ONLY TRUE JAPANESE RESTAURANT RESTAURANT IN SOUTH DAKOTA***Don't be fooled by fusion, folks! So thrilled to come back to Sioux Falls and dine at Sushi Masa again! We lived in Studio City for 15 years next to world-famous sushi restaturants, and we still use Sushi Masa as our basis for comparison. They really do have the freshest fish and amazing, talented and creative sushi chefs who create flawless presentations.
Dietary restrictions: They were awesome about my gluten-free requests and have Tamari on hand. The servers knew which meals were GF possible and made substitutions for me (no ginger carrot dressing, no cocktail sauce, soy sauce, etc.)
