Great food friendly service. We’ll be back.
Stepping into Chachalacas on a brisk evening in Regina felt like stepping into someone’s welcoming kitchen south of the border. Nestled in a cozy space with walls painted in a cheerful shade of orange, the restaurant exudes an unassuming warmth—a perfect blend of home and celebration.
It was a quiet night, yet the energy inside was vibrant. The tables were dotted with groups eagerly digging into their meals, their expressions silently attesting to the magic on their plates. My companion and I settled in, surrounded by the hum of conversation and the occasional clatter from the open kitchen, where the magic of Chachalacas happens.
We ordered the al pastor tacos—tender, marinated pork layered with a tangy-sweet pineapple salsa, all wrapped in soft, fresh tortillas. The dish was a triumph of balance: smoky, spiced meat complemented by the fruit’s bright acidity. Each bite transported me, if not to Mexico itself, then to the kind of authenticity that only care and craftsmanship can bring.
The service was quick but unhurried, a refreshing change from the rushed anonymity of chain restaurants. Our server, attentive and personable, seemed genuinely invested in ensuring we had everything we needed. Plates arrived promptly, and yet there was no sense of being rushed out the door—a delicate balance that added to the meal’s overall charm.
Chachalacas isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. It’s a reminder that even in the heart of the prairies, far from the sun-soaked streets of Mexico, you can find vibrant, flavorful food made with love. For Regina’s food scene, it’s a little slice of culinary joy that deserves its place in the spotlight.

I went on a Friday around lunch hour and was excited to have some authentic Mexican food and I ordered a very simple dish of enchiladas with beans and rice, and for preference I am Mexican myself and when I received my food I was somewhat shocked by the condition, due to expecting a caliber for Mexican cuisine to a very low level dish, the e rice was stale, no Chile, jalapenos, or tomato salsa was added to make it a Mexican type of rice we would use. The beans came in a aggressively small salsa container when the majority of the cases they were a actual side dish and the beans themselves were black beans and it mostly all Mexican restaurants we use pinto beans. The enchiladas were not the actual red sauce enchiladas it a mediocre attempt of a raw corn tortilla with added bland tomato paste with no additional Chiles or spice that make the enchiladas a actual enchilada, so I would say this is not authentic nor Americanized Mexican food however the customer service was great and they were extremely helpful.

2 years ago, I gave this place 5 stars, but it seemed to have really gone down hill. I ordered Fish Tacos, and the tilapia had a very strong pungent fishy smell. This is an indication that they're serving spoiling food. Fresh fish should have a mild, almost neutral smell, which is the smell of this dish 2 years ago.

I got the Tilapia of Veracruz, and my husband got Beef fajita. Everything was delicious. The fish was so fresh! So tasty! Prices were around 16dls the fish , and 20 dls the fajita.
The service made by this boy. Really courteous and friendly.

This restaurant used to be good, authentic Mexican cuisine, until it changed ownership. The shrimp tacos I had today were awful. Instead of using regular shrimp, they used those tiny shrimps which are chewy, fishy tasting and are really only meant to be used in fried rice. They also included ranch sauce with the tacos which was really odd, as ranch is not used often in Mexican cuisine, and it did not do these tacos any justice. My biggest advice to the new owners if they want this restaurant to survive: use proper shrimp, ditch the ranch sauces, LEARN ABOUT MEXICAN CUISINE, and keep the food authentic. This was a good restaurant before. Keep it good.

The most basic burrito I've had to date. Asked for ground beef and I don't think I tasted it once. Ton of rice and beans but no meat at all. Barley any cheese. This place used to be great like most spots in regina but now it's horrible. Now I see why I never see anyone in the parking lot..

Used to love this restaurant. Was an easy go to when coming to city. Took an out of town friend there yesterday and it was one of the most horrific dining experiences ever.
Arrived at 11:45 am, no one else was in restaurant at this time. There was only one employee there (odd coming into a lunch period). A few minutes after we sat down, a skip driver arrived.
We ordered our food and drinks and a cup of ice. 10 minutes later the drinks came out but no ice. Fine whatever figured we would just remind him when he came back out.
For the hour that we sat waiting, 3-4 different groups came in (7 people total) sat down with menus then would wait for 15-20 minutes without even being given water before giving up and just leaving.
We had a glass of water spill, I went to ask for a cloth, was just handed 4 napkins. I explained that it was a full glass so a towel would be better. Was completely ignored so went to the washroom and grabbed the paper towel from there and my friend went into back to get mop for water on floor.
Unfortunately he did not emerge from the back until over 50 minutes later to hand give skip driver their order then didn’t even acknowledge us before going back into kitchen area. We understand that he was there by himself but there was just zero service happening. At this point we’ve had enough, so I poked my head back to see where our food was at as we would have just cancelled order if it wasn’t started to which he snapped “5 minutes” with no explanation or apology whatsoever. I asked if we could just get to go instead as my kids were beyond restless. He said “ya okay”. 20 minutes later the food finally came out. Not only was the food packing an absolute joke (I usually only get take out from this place so I know this was not normal for takeaway), the construction of the burrito itself was horrendous and fell apart after only two bites, we were also missing an entire meal from our order.
I feel sympathy that he was the only employee in the restaurant during a lunch hour rush, but it doesn’t excuse the complete lack of customer service and sub par food preparation. If he would have been apologetic and at least communicated with us, I don’t think we would have been as upset with the experience even with the food being substandard. His attitude was just awful.
If you can’t have at least 2 staff members working during a time, don’t be open. The amount of customers that came in and walked out would have justified the wage of another person working.
The experience has ensured I will never be returning or recommending this place.
Again used to be a favourite of mine, so disappointing, don’t know what the heck happened…

Poor service overall. Did not get a chance to try the food because it was too long of a wait. My friend ordered just the cheesecake and the server heated it up. Would not recommend if you're stopping in for a quick lunch.

I ordered the nachos and quesadillas. The food was amazing! The service was great. After I got my order I discovered I lost my car keys. The owner drove me to my house to get my spare set. When I finally got home the food was still warm and incredible.
Really wonderful amazing people here and their food is truly awesome. Best Mexican in the city.

Must be under new management. Used to be great. New chefs, apathetic staff, cheaper ingredients, smaller quantities. Table and floor were sticky. Got fajitas, the flour tortillas were absolutely disintegrated before I even touched them. The crumbs and small chunks were stale and dry. Most of the veggie mix was just onions. Drinks alone took maybe 15 minutes to get out to us, and they were just two bottles. totally empty except for our table of three. Skip the dishes driver came in halfway through us eating (again, nobody else in the restaurant), and he had to wait ages for the team to get the food. Really disappointed.
Disappointed lunch. First impression was the place needs a thorough cleaning. The server was friendly and took our order fast. The server turned out to be the cook, so things got delayed was more people came. My fish taco’s was presented nicely, but the shells disintegrated as soon as I tried to pick it up, so ended up eating the filling with a fork, never did taste the shell. Served with rice, beans, salad and some kind of sauce. The server and cook also turned out to be the cashier so had to open the door to get his attention to pay the bill. Really, never again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
