I'll start by saying that after moving here from Alberta, I am always on the hunt for a good Banh Mi. When Uncle Sunny's first opened, I gave it a shot, and it fell short. The bread was mid, the meat was tough, the sandwich itself was quite small, and overall it was a very poor representation of something you'd get in the streets of Ho Chi Minh for example.
Almost a year later, and having moved into the Lake View area, I wanted to give it another shot. My Wife and I ordered two of the Beef and Chicken Vermicelli Bowls and a side order of Spring Rolls. I should also note that whenever I get Vietnamese food, which is very often; I order a side of their satay/chili oil. This is often an indicator to me of what the meal as a whole is going to be like, since it's a key ingredient in the preparation of some of their staple meats.
We ordered over the phone, and my Wife went to pick it up. What she came back with was what I would describe as two heaping piles of grey. Truly, if the colour grey had a texture and taste, it would have been this.
Quantitatively speaking, it was plenty of food for the price. But that is where the positives end.
Both the chicken and beef were severely over cooked and under flavored. It was actually quite difficult differentiating between the two, which is worrisome to say the least. Large chunks of cooked onions were plentiful, but did not add to this dish in any pleasant or cooperative way.
I could probably write a novel about the spring rolls, and why they were ghastly at best, but I won't. I will just say that wrapping around the subpar filling was so heavily saturated in oil that I could have wrang them out into a bottle for my future cooking needs.
As a final note, the amount of chili oil they provided could only be measured by an ultra precision scale of some sort - We're talking micrograms. I had even offered to pay extra for some, and they said no, no problem, and put this in the bag for us to discover at home.
Never in my life have I hopped back in my vehicle and driven food back to a restaurant to get my money back. But when we saw what we were in for, I phoned them immediately and told them I would be more than happy to bring the food back for a refund. The lady on the phone acerbically obliged. When I arrived, she inspected each box, and eventually refunded me. She did so, however, in Cash. The Cash was 3 dollars less than what we had originally paid them with debit including a tip.
For anyone that took the time to read this, you should try Quan Ngon, or Co Ba, they are both pretty

The signature Vietnamese dish here is an absolute triumph of flavor and tradition—think of it as the ultimate Phở (or Bánh Mì, or Grilled Pork with Rice Noodles, depending on their star offering)! Crafted with the freshest herbs, tender meats (or vibrant veggies for plant-based perfection), and that iconic broth or sauce that’s simmered to aromatic perfection, it strikes an unforgettable balance of savory, tangy, fragrant, and subtly spicy notes. Every spoonful (or bite) transports you straight to the streets of Hanoi or Saigon, with layers of complexity that build with each taste. The presentation is stunning, garnished with lime, basil, bean sprouts, and chilies that invite you to customize your bliss. It’s not just a dish—it’s an experience that captures the soul of Vietnamese cuisine and leaves you utterly satisfied yet craving more. A must-order masterpiece! 🍲🇻🇳✨⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This restaurant is an absolute gem! The food is bursting with flavor, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented every single time. The service is warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, making you feel like a valued guest rather than just a customer. The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, the ideal spot for everything from a casual dinner to a special celebration. Hands down one of the best dining experiences around—highly recommend!

Good food but misleading on the price, was told the extra broth was $3 and was charged $7 for less than half a bowl of broth. Seriously?

We went here on a recommendation, my wife’s coworker said it’s the best Vietnamese in the province, and after being there I won’t argue. The trip bowl is fire, the shrimp fresh rolls are huge and also fire. The sate beef sub is fire too. I wish I kne of this place sooner in life.
