Refused our party of 7 for outside because they Only had one server and the management said they couldn't help.... meanwhile the restaurant was not very busy at all

1885 Grill was such a great experience! The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel really welcome from the start. I was especially impressed by how many vegetarian options were available — it made choosing both easy and exciting.
The hush puppies with honey butter were absolutely delicious, perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, with the honey butter adding just the right sweetness. But the standout for me was the mushroom and grits. I loved the creative mix of creamy, classic grits alongside fried grits, all smothered in a lemony caper mushroom sauce with hearty oyster mushrooms. The grits were tender and luscious, and the sauce brought everything together beautifully.
For vegans, there was a hummus appetizer and a salad, but I imagine if requested, the staff would be more than willing to come up with something creative beyond that, since they were so accommodating.
Between the thoughtful service, great vegetarian options, and dishes that feel both comforting and elevated, this place is a must-visit in Chattanooga.

Food was terrible. Service was slow need to replace outdoor tables.
The food was god awful. Mashed potatoes were so dry that a quarter stick of butter did nothing to help. “Gumbo” was like a bad box of red beans and rice. The steak was good but nobody could tell me what cut of meat it was. The staff was nice but I will never go back. $90 down the drain.

Food was great but the best part was meeting all the dogs and their owners on the coverd patio.

The wait was unbearable after paying over $20 for 2 hr parking and the restaurant quite disappointing overall. The burgers were cold and very mediocre, so were the fries, but the salads we tried were decent. Bird poop on the tables and our heads was a no-no (disgusting), so the staff should definitively warn the guests before seating anyone outside. The wait for food was also very long. The server was just okay. Music was okay. They definitively paid more attention to the parties inside than other guests.

Not my favorite place. I keep coming back hoping for a better experience. The outside seating is nice. The interior needs a bit of an update. It’s rather bland. As a vegetarian, I generally don’t find much here for me to enjoy. Salads aren’t what I want to eat when I’m out to dinner. I did happen to go in on the last day of the vegan challenge and I was pleasantly surprised with their offerings. I wish they’d offer those types of offerings all of the time.

I can't find a single bad thing to say! The award winning wings; I can't find anything to compare them to, the fried green tomatoes you must try. The service is awesome.

Great find! Husband and I found this great place for lunch. I had seen pics of the burgers and we decided to share one of the ginormous burgers! We were not disappointed at all! Hope to eat there again before we leave to go back home to Texas.

1885 Restaurant is located at the bottom of Lookout Mtn in Chattanooga - in a beautiful, quaint and historic neighborhood called St. Elmo. My sister and I grew up on Signal Mtn., and love the area. We had an awesome dinner tonight, and the best waiter EVER - Kevin! Food is always delicious, the setting is perfect. Sat outside on a beautiful evening and had a wonderful dinner. If you're in Chattanooga, check it out! It's near the Incline (you need to ride it!), and located near the base of Lookout Mtn, a great place for families to visit Rock City - and eat at 1885!!!

OK, so the sun is setting and your nestled in the shadow of Lookout Mountain. You probably went there to see the national park. Sit outdoors if the climate allows. This is the place with the award-winning wings. There are enough trophies to make a little league dynasty happy.
6/10 Pinot Grigio: it’s a glass of white wine
6/10 Strawberry smash: a tasty lemonade, strawberry drink.
7.9/10 Blueberry Mojito: I like a clean citrusy drink, and this is it!
Crab bisque: a savory cream base with chunks of crab. Very tasty and a bit on the salty side.
Award-winning wings: double fried and tossed in Carolina gold barbecue sauce, service, celery, and ranch for me. Blue cheese available. 10 to 10 would recommend. Savory honey, mustard barbecue sauce with a hint of tanginess crispy perfectly cooked not served overly hot.
Ribeye: medium with rosemary Pom frites, aïoli, and Caesar side salad. Ribeye is cooked fairly well cook lean on the rare side. Frites with aïoli dope, Amsterdam needs to call and get their recipe!
Mushroom Grits: tried 50-50 on the grits. One of them cheesy creamy grits, the other cooled padded flowered, and fried out of the shrimp. If you can’t afford to eat here, go steal your grandma’s TV and hockey at the local pawnshop. This dish is worth it! The citrusy creamy cheesy grits with greens and mushrooms come together as an explosion of flavor.
Pecan apricot bread pudding: excellent, the chef is a sorcerer. If you try this and descend into the depths of stealing from your family so that you can get more, we are not responsible.
P.S.
The staff that brought our food was not our server. She took it upon herself to bring fresh or fries. That is good service no matter what. Anytime you have servers cover in the back of other servers, You’re in a good spot.

My husband and I went there July 25th for our anniversary The last couple times we had been there it was not as good as it used to be but this time it was the worst meal I have had. The fish had a flower crust like cardboard on it The food was not hot The cream corn was terrible it was not creamed it was corn and some kind of watery mixture I sent that back and they brought me out grilled vegetables that were terrible when I spoke to them about it they said that they had a lot of new workers there that considering the food that come out it seems like they would have at least brought the new workers up to speed because they even said they had had a lot of complaints about the corn in particular yet they were still serving it when I went to the bathroom I could see in the kitchen for there were eating and drinking over the print tables overall not one thing was taken off they didn't offer to bring a dessert anything to make anything better I left without eating my meal and will not be back
