I get the chicken salad croissant with Mediterranean salad every time and is usually the best part of my week. Extremely friendly, calm and welcoming place to read for a bit or even just a quick bite in the work day.

I am looking to potentially move to the Chattanooga area and this place caught my eye! Used books and coffee?! Yes please! I spoke with the owner/operator while I was ordering. She told me that her grandmother opened the store initially for used books, but those don't pay the bills (!) so when she sees people finding books here instead of just coming for the coffee that makes her so happy! There's lots of space and many different seating options. I recently started writing a book and this is the perfect place for that- or any work that needs to get done. Plus, $5 used books are a deal! I ACCIDENTALY got 7....and a latte. I'll be back for sure!! I put that I spent $1-10 for the coffee but I did buy 7 books. Just wanted to clarify!Parking: Free street parking! However, I came here on the heels of a winter storm, so there were not as many people out. Either way, it was easy to park.Kid-friendliness: There is a lot of space that is carpeted that would be great for kids to play on the ground. There are multiple different kinds of seating options too!Wheelchair accessibility: Lots of space between tables and plenty of room. On the first floor.

This is a sweet little bookshop! We ordered coffees and enjoyed them. We did not order any food but others did and it smelled heavenly. It is a quaint store, but I liked that. The offerings were not overwhelming, giving time to dig more deeply into the selections.

Allgoods is a lovely lunch spot! As someone who who lives and works in East Chatt I am proud to recommend Miss Jackie's place. It's a neighborhood café where Scott the mailman comes in and says, I'll have my usual, be back in 15 minutes to pick it up and pay."With Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald in the background, the atmosphere is perfect to grab lunch with a friend or get a coffee and journal by yourself. I'm happy to report her salads are always fresh and yummy; a great option for gluten-free folks like me!

I can't quite contain my enthusiasm for this place. I'll be honest, I JUST learned about East Chattanooga, the neighborhood where this coffee shop operates. The census says this area has 1337 people, 87% of which are black. EC is in rough shape. Industries have left and dilapidated structures outnumber those in good condition. The neighborhood has seen countless efforts to revitalize with limited success. At 9AM I feel pretty safe, but crime and poverty are a prevailing issue here. AND YET....Allgood's Used Books and Coffee defies it's neighborhood's statistics armed only with literature, great food, and warmth. It is a black-owned establishment about 4 years old, which means that it survived COVID and I hope it continues to thrive. As the name implies, the coffee shop is lined with used books. I browsed while waiting for my food. Looking over the titles, I could easily imagine coming in here with no plans, grabbing some coffee and a book I've never heard of and happily losing a couple hours. The shop is simply lovely. Exposed brick walls lined with books and art, and homey touches throughout. Allgood's is the opposite of pretentious. No shiplap. No buzzword decals on the walls. No handlebar mustaches. The customers all know the owner who is behind the counter, and a few them called her "cousin". There is a very respectable food menu which includes a Loaded Breakfast Bowl, a Caesar salad, and grits. I had a delicious Egg, Bacon, Cheese, Croissant and a large latte that was as good as any I've had in Chatt. The music seems to be appropriately chill, popular tunes from the 60s-80s. Etta James, McCartney, and The Supremes are some that I've heard so far. I can't begin to tell you how great the vibe is in here. It's an oasis in a neighborhood wrestling with poverty and crime and I can't feel a little hopeful that the goodness in this room will infect the rest of the neighborhood.I'll be back for sure.Update: since my first visit I've had the grits. And then again on each subsequent visit.

Yes, their location seems like it’s a rough side of town, and the buildings appear as though they are not inhabited. It is historic. The area is making a comeback. As I looked closer I could see the Allgood sign on the window and people moving around. I had searched for them on Google. Much to my delight, the interior is tastefully done and I donated my books I had brought. Then I realized Jackie, the owner had a cafe as well in the shop and I needed lunch. She is a very warm, friendly person running the business that her late grandmother had owned. I ordered her chicken salad recipe on a croissant which was loaded with the salad, lettuce and tomato. Bon Appetite!!It was tasty! She made me a berry flavored drink which was very good. I only wish I live closer to Chattanooga so that I could frequently eat there. I am well over an hour away. I highly recommend this store! I will be back whenever I am in town.??

I’m in awe! Found an absolute gem of a coffee shop/book store.Driving here, it felt a bit like east side Austin. Rough looking part of town (back in 2013ish), but promising and home to some of the best gems.Sure enough, I walked into the shop and felt like I walked into the most comfortable library. Books stacked everywhere; shelves, tables, even above the door. The coffee area was so welcoming and I loved the mismatched, simple mugs. Nothing stuffy or too fancy. The owner, Jackie, is warm and friendly…like you’re an old friend kind of friendly. The food and blueberry matcha latte I had were amazing.I might have found a new favorite coffee shop!!Vegetarian options: Salad (ceasar, house, and Mediterranean)Kid-friendliness: Are with kids books and even a little chair!Parking: Parking out front and next to the buildingWheelchair accessibility: No stairs or steps, easy access
