We went to a fall festival in downtown and decided to stop in for a coffee. While we waited to order i saw a pumpkin spice croissant. Of course I had to try it and I am so glad I did. It was delicious. Highly recommend. Our coffee was very good. The employees were very kind. We will definitely be back.

This place has so much potential but boy do they miss the mark on pretty much everything! I have come here on a number of occasions and every time they are understaffed with rude girls working there who have no idea how to make any of the drinks they offer. Each time, it takes over 15 minutes for me to receive my coffee and croissant, even when there's no line.
This last visit was probably the worst…I have only seen the same two brunette girls working there. The person from this past weekend was somewhat stocky and extremely rude. Despite the lengthy wait, no one in line was complaining, yet she was huffing off and banging everything around.
Point being really the blame lies on who ever the owner is. If you can't afford to employ more than one person to work at a time, you might reconsider running a business. It's unfair to the staff, and customers likely won't return. It’s unfortunate because we really don’t have many options here in Gallatin but we will be taking our business elsewhere from now on.

I cannot recommend this place enough! Where to begin? I'm ashamed I didn't catch the name of the sweet barista working, but she was a such delight. I sat here for about 3 hours after ordering and there was a constant stream of people the entire time. Several of which were getting large orders for their office. She never once lost her smile or sweet demeanor towards the customers. She was so helpful and polite. She engaged in conversation with several people asking their names and thanking them by name as they left. I mentioned that I would be hanging out for a while as my dog was getting spayed just down the street, and she wrapped up a few dog treats and gave them to me even mentioning my dog by name! I had a hard time choosing which pastry as they all looked AMAZING, but I settled on the almond croissant at her recommendation, and I was not disappointed.
I needed a comfy and humble abode after leaving my favorite one in my hometown. I moved here with no connections, no friends, and only 3 family members. I am so lucky to have walked in here. So happy to have found a chosen family here.
But... let's not get lost on the food!
Truly a splendid place to go with such beautiful souls. To be served gourmet deserts, pastries, coffe and more by the wonderful humans who work there is a gift indeed. To top it off, its connected to a beautiful Italian Resturant by the name of La Venta. A joined patisserie and gourmet Italian restaurant is a European dream, right here in the heart of Gallatin, TN ♡

To start with the good, the pastries are really good, the cannoli filled croissant was light, flaky, and buttery like a croissant should be, with a delicious filling that wasn’t over sweetened, definitely worth going for that alone. That being said the coffee is pretty bad, super bland, not balanced, and all the specials are extremely sweet and light, not at all what I was hoping for from Italian inspired coffee and pastry shop. Service was ok, the service person seemed a little lost, but maybe it was their first week so I won’t be too harsh, they were polite and friendly. The atmosphere looks exactly like what it is, a space that has tried to be 3-4 different concepts in a short time. There’s remnants of previous restaurant themes (ice cream social? What happened to that? Filly’s game a grill? Filly’s grinders? Now a coffee shop and Italian bistro next door? This place has more turnovers than just their pastries) and it feels way too big for a simple coffee shop. Anyways, it’s fine, and if you don’t love it just wait a few months and I’m sure the owners will be trying a new concept again. But I’ll be sticking to Black Elm for a quality coffee for now.

This has quickly become our favorite coffee shop/bakery in the area. The coffee and pastries are fantastic! I highly recommend the pain au chocolat. We stop in at least once a week for gelato and love that we can bring our dogs inside. The baristas are always so friendly and spoil our dogs with pup cups!
