Stopped in for beer to go! As staying next door...was greeted warmly and prompt. Had a short conversation with Barbara and the guy at the bar who i assume may be part owner.
They were extremely pleasant and helpful with questions about the area. Plan on stopping back this week to check it out further. Interesting antiques and memorabilia throughout interior! đ„°
Best bar in Gatlinburg! We love sitting outside people watching. The bar inside is great also loved the owner cant wait to come back!
I will start by saying it is difficult to find this place open and when you do, it is pricey.
With that said, this is the first place I go to when I visit. It has a lot of nostalgia and the food is amazing. It does take a long time to get your food order, but it is worth it. I don't know how they manage seafood to be good in a mountain town, but they do.
The female that owns/runs the place is herself, a bit salty, like the name of the place implies. While she does have political opinion posted all over the walls, she does not engage in political conversation with you. If asked she will respond, but otherwise she does not force feed you an agenda. If you are offended by the heaviness of the walls, I would say, leave or just ignore it like you do when you see the garbage people throw on the ground in the park.
She reminds me of Darlene Snell from Ozark, but that makes her that much more enjoyable.
I can see why people may be offended, but suspend your politics, your desire to get in and out of a place quickly in the busiest national park town in the US and your concern on cost. It is a tourist town.
Enjoy the show of people that come in and stay and the people that leave offended.
It is a great, whole in the wall and near the only free parking on the strip.
P.S., I only gave it a 4 star on service to express the speed of the service. If you are nice to them and unexpecting, you will get the personality you give.
I can't wait for my next trip to Gburg and my next meal at the Salty Bear.
If youâre looking for a relaxing and casual atmosphere to eat, this is a GREAT option! The peel-and-eat shrimp and crab cakes are fantastic. It wasnât crowded, and the location is right off the Gatlinburg strip so itâs still easy to get access. I highly recommend it!
Ran me out with my service dog had his ID he isn't a support animal I have PTSD which is legally a disability!
Barbara is the sweetest and the food is delicious. Such a cute little place to hangout and have a drink.
This place is completely amazingâŠif you canât take the politics you should just be kind and go elsewhereâŠthis is for a true Americans!
Wow I understand I am off the strip and I am a tourist trap . But two drinks no exaggeration I paid for a liquor bottle for two drinks .. buyer beware ask before you buy , or you will be slammed with a bill thatâs was beyond price gouging.. I see why others have left horrible reviews!!!
My fiancé and I dropped by and sat at the bar to eat. Barbara was great and we enjoyed talking to her! We highly recommend this place! Our new favorite place to eat!!!
Oysters were amazing, been here a couple times đ. I can't wait to go back. I love these people here đ.

didn't enjoy my time here, and now that I see how rudely the manager responds to people leaving reviews i will definitely not go back.

Would have just gone to Dick's if I wanted to be berated. Definitely come in here if you want to deal with the old hag's racist politics. Could be an awesome bar, great location, but damn...we just wanted to relax. Regardless of politics. Just leave it out of the bar, damn!!!!
This is a perfect little place for great shrimp and amazing cold beer! The atmosphere is relaxing and so comfortable you will feel right at home!

This is mine and my wifeâs favorite place in the Smokies. People search most of their lives for a bar with the vibes The Salty Bear yields and never find it. The owners treated us like family and everyone who seems to come in there becomes friends just because itâs such a great atmosphere. If you like oysters, do not skip them here because you wonât be disappointed. Great food, great drinks, great people, great prime country music (if you donât like that I feel sorry for you). Weâre from Nashville and Iâve seen a lot of great bars in my time but this place is on my Mt Rushmore of places to get a cold beer.
