Gill’s BBQ and Catering Service

Ordered the cowboy platter. Meat was overcooked, too much seasoning, dry. Coleslaw was meh. Mac n cheese was good as well as the apple cobbler. Service and atmosphere was bland.

An amazing BBQ experience ....had the pork and chicken tacos ....we are from Lindenhurst, Illinois and have traveled all over the country...... we would literally plan a trip just to make sure we ate there again!!! 10/10!!!

Hard to find good BBQ around here with all the chain resturants. Solid pulled pork sandwich and burrito. Good sauce and cole slaw as well. Highly recommend ?

Since time immoral rafters, kayakers, boaters, oarsmen, oarspersons and all other such denizens and ne’er do wells of The Pigeon River have flocked to the brazen standard of Gills Barbecue. I first became aware/cognizant of this fine establishment through the not-so-subtle exhortations of my friend, lets just call him “Abraham”. He would forcefully steer me into the direction of this tiny food stand with a massive iron grill/oven, caked in decades of char and “seasonings”.Abrham would dictate, “Now Gay-REE” you want the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, better get two cause you look hungry.” I was instantly hooked as I greedily devoured my pulled-pork and slaw sandwiches. They were so good! Much better than anything within 50 miles. His chicken sandwich is legit too. I’ve never had the brisket but…..gotta dream.The menu is posted in chalk on a board out front. Everything is made by hand in the tiniest, tiny food truck I’ve ever seen. Once you know what your looking for, its hard to miss. There might be a pic-nic table out front. I can’t tell if it’s painted dark red or not. But with a little effort you can find it. If he’s not there just have some patience, make some tic-tacs, or just scream into the void, eventually Gill will get back to you.The worst thing is after being on the water and discovering Gill has run out of food. He sells out, every day. He sells out every day. I’m not joking. Woe unto you creatures of the earth that raft the Pigeon and at the end of your mighty exertions are bereft of a pulled pork and slaw sandwich, with beans on the side.His beans are also spot on, and he makes his own sauce. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! Now get in line and be courteous and have cash in hand. You’ll be glad you did. ALL TRUE. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!!!

Absolutely incredible tacos! Smokey pulled pork falls apart in your mouth, perfectly balanced with a burst of flavorful slaw. I need these tacos again. This stop is right off 40, easy access, beautiful scenery, quick service. You need to stop by, you won't regret it. I never do reviews but these tacos were memorable, the river is lovely, and Gill is a cool guy.

Oh my, best bbq, cutest dog, kindest owner. I love Gill's bbq! My husband doesn't normally like bbq but he loved Gill's pulled pork sandwich. Amazing place. We'll be back soon!

Was looking for some good food on my way down south and Gills did not disappoint!! The guy who runs the truck is really nice and down to earth. Also the pulled pork sandwich and burrito were some of the best I’ve ever had and very fairly priced. If you’re in the area definitely give this truck a shot!

This is off the beaten path but so worth it! Gill's pulled pork is mouthwateringly delicious!!! He's so personable and his dog Sweets is a peach! His homemade mustard/vinegar/molasses based sauce is like heaven! It's a must try!! Plus the view of the river is lovely!

A must stop when in Hartford. Don't get confused for anywhere else... look for the "food truck" and smoker next to great seating at the river's side.
