We have eaten here several times and it’s always been good, but not this time. First of all, the restaurant usually has a quirky vibe that has deteriorated to creepy and dirty. The decorative stuff that’s everywhere looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a while. We were seated quickly, but they must have been short handed because our waiter had no clue what to do. Like maybe waiting tables was not his usual job. He did try his best to do a good job. I ordered the New York strip steak special cooked medium and my husband ordered one of their other specials. The salads were pretty good. When the entrees came, however, my steak was practically raw. I sent it back and they cooked it some more, but it was probably the worst cut of meat I have ever had. It was pan fried and more like a fatty piece of round steak. I couldn’t even eat it. It came with potatoes and vegetables that tasted reheated. My husband’s entree was better and he enjoyed it. I felt like it was way too much money for the quality of food I received. We used to like this place, but I doubt we will go back. Sad.

We stopped here while staying at nearby horse campground. My husband and daughter said their meat tasted old and smelled bad. We couldn;t finish all our food due to that.

For an authentic taste of Germany, I highly recommend this hidden gem on the Cumberland Plateau. Chef Kurt offers a different menu every night, depending on local ingredients available and his mood. Each time I visit is an adventure and I have always been delighted. Located inside an 1800s school house, the decor takes you back to long ago. Such a charming restaurant with delicious food.

The menu said that things were fresh and normally picked that day. Our broccoli and salad said otherwise.

We went there for Mother’s Day and it was such a disappointment. The food was inedible. They advertised prime rib, chicken, and salmon. When we got there the board said roast beef, chicken, and trout. The roast beef was too tough to eat, they didn’t even serve fish of any kind, and the chicken had the worst smell. I’m sure is was ruined.

Went with family and was treated like family. Worth the drive and food was amazing!

I really wasn't going to put this because the waiter and the waitress is incredibly awesome people!! But it's been about a month ago now, we went and ate here. The first time we went it was super delicious and we decided to take the rest of the family. This is where it went down hill. So our food was absolutely disgusting. We found a cockroach and ants in our food. The other food that came out smelled so bad. I really feel bad for the help that works there. But quite frankly, this place needs to be shut down and inspected.

We had wonderful, attentive service, and even better food. What a gem! Bring your own alcohol- small corking fee.

We had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately, the waitress being friendly was the only positive thing I have to say about the place. Some of the food tasted rotten, the server accidentally dumped hot chocolate on me, and they didn’t have electricity in the bathroom and water pressure was extremely low in the sink of the other one. There was also no heat (still...from what I’m reading it’s been out for awhile). No Covid precautions were taken, and as a healthcare provider who has seen a lot of Covid death, this was disappointing to see.

Not a lot of options around Picket CCC Memorial State Park. Had family and tried several different dishes. Cups of ice had black flakes of something. Fried potato pancakes were burnt and a weird metal tasting. May be from the iron pan it came on. The schnitzel had a strange ham taste to it. The egg breading batter was very bland an dry. Wife found, what appeared to be a butter aluminum foil wrapper underneath the pancakes. She also found a hair in her dish. Salad looked as if they were prepared a few days ago and placed in refrigerator (dry tomatoes). We wanted it to be fun and different, but as a German 1st generation American, this wasn't representative at all! Not sure how they are still open outside of the fact that there are no restaurants near the park.

This place is rough. I feel bad, because clearly this is a small, family run place, but it's time to call it quits. It seemed like a great concept, old school German guy pumping out awesome, unique German dishes. However, you will not get that here. The poor cook had Parkinson's Disease as noted by the waitress several times. The place was cold, dreary, and had a massive amount of issues. Literally there are so many I cannot list them. I just would not go. After leaving, I kept Googling to see if others had this experience. I came across this ghastly article: Like an old dog that can harm others, they need to put her down. It's a risk to people's health.

Food was subpar. Steaks to tough to eat. Will not go back.

If I could rate it lower I would. We got there and it was 30 degrees outside. Their heat was out and they were using propane tanks to heat sections at a time. It was a cute cozy looking restaurant with a lot of history behind it as it was 130 years old. We decided to eat there anyways. The waitresses were nice, but that is the only good thing I can say about the experience. They did not tell us beforehand, but they were out of almost everything on the menu except for all of the high priced dishes. No hamburgers whatsoever. So, you had to either order an appetizer or some thing that was $15+. We decided to get ribeyes for ourselves (my boyfriend and I) and chicken tenders for my 3 and 7 year old. We waited an hour before we even got our food. There were only two other families in the restaurant. The chicken tenders came out first on a pile of fruit that looked like it was a week old and had been defrosted and reheated. Not something you would order for a child anyways, but on top of that it tasted terrible. My brother-in-law ordered the same thing and refused it because when it got to the table it appeared to have a beard hair on it. My kids wouldn't eat it at all. That was $8 per plate down the drain. The ribeyes we ordered were actually New York strips. They were bland and dry, and tasted terrible. We ordered both of them medium rare, but they were still so tough I could barely cut mine. The veggies that came with it tasted freezer burnt. My dog will be getting my steak when I get home. The bill was $71 and some change. We complained about the food and literally everything we were served, yet the chef (also the owner I'm assuming) insisted that the vegetables had just been picked that morning (the day after Christmas). They wouldn't budge on the price. So, we literally left two full plates of chicken and took home a steak that was terrible. I highly do not reccomend. And, well never return.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The lowest restaurant health inspection grade of the year comes out of Fentress County. The state inspection report shows there were more than half a dozen risk factor violations. Bacara’s Family Restaurant, Jamestown: 54. That’s the lowest grade we’ve reported in at least 6 years.
