For an authentic taste of Germany, I highly recommend this hidden gem on the Cumberland Plateau. Chef Kurt offers a different menu every night, depending on local ingredients available and his mood. Each time I visit is an adventure and I have always been delighted. Located inside an 1800s school house, the decor takes you back to long ago. Such a charming restaurant with delicious food.

We’re exploring 5 arches at and near Pickett State Park on a damp day, so our hungry selves were glad to get inside and enjoy brunch. Numerous courses and plenty of food. Busy. Can only pay with cash. Fruit with Thousand Island dressing was different for us. Salad, bread, thin soup, and then roast beef, pork chop, and fish on quinoa and veggies. Black Forest cake for dessert.

Enjoyed both the atmosphere and food here. I ordered the Marinated Bourbon Salmon which arrived on a plank done to perfection. The accompanying salad, soup and home baked bread did not disappoint. My waitress reminded me of a favorite Aunt and immediately made me feel at home. I just had to try Cucumber Tea a special of the house. Sweet tea, a splash of Cola, fresh fruit and a sprig of mint. Light and refreshing! I will return when back in East Tennessee!
