Hidden Jewel of a Restaurant. It is among the top three places to eat in the Kingsport area. All ingredients fresh. I have had 4 different dishes here and they all have been excellent! The shrimp in Mango Sauce may be my favorite shrimp dish of all time. They have an unreal busy take-out business, But the dining room is peaceful and has a really relaxing atmosphere for a Dinner with Friends. I am going to make it my policy to eat at the Plum Trees at least weekly.
My favorite in tri-cities. Never have had a bad meal. The shrimp in lobster sauce is amazing. My wife usually gets the chicken fried rice never finishes at all. Of course later finish it for her at home. Great place to eat.
My wife and I went for a late Sunday lunch (about 3:00pm). The entre portions were less than we usually get at dinner (so were the prices) but it was still enough food that my wife had to get a "go box" to take some home. The food was very good with one exception - the spring rolls were way over cooked. The were still edible (barely) but the chef should have pitched them both and started over. Other than that, it was good as usual.
The food is amazing! Good friendly staff too, I just wish they would do some remodelling. The place doesn't look the cleanest, but the food tastes like it's prepared fresh every time... the almond fried chicken is a very popular dish, and the wonton soup is very good!
The BEST Asian food! The restaurant ambiance is really nice. The water flowing is an added touch as well. However we had very poor service. We waited to long for them to take our order. Then waited even longer for our food. If you have better service, you'll make more money.
We really didn't expect to get the best sesame chicken from a restaurant which we picked nearby our road trip. The spicy Toufu is wonderful too! Waitress is very friendly and the fountain with bridge in the middle of restaurant is pretty nice! We were so happy for our dinner tonight on the road!

I have a sister who has enjoyed meals at Plum Tree for many years, so I decided to join her a couple of days ago. Sadly, my impression was not the same. I struggled with the menu because it included tired old Americanized Chinese influenced foods. We both ordered Imperial Shrimp. It was unusually bland and the quality did not seem good. The vegetables did not have good flavor, and they were obviously frozen and not fresh. I also think I got the tail end of the bag, as I only had one regular size baby corn cob and a handful of 1/2 inch size broken pieces. The broccoli and carrots tasted almost identical, neither was fresh. The shrimp was not fully cleaned, but at least they were a good size. The wine sauce was so bland that we had to drench our meals with soy sauce. The fried rice was mostly rice, without any noticeable vegetables and only one tiny piece of egg. It also required extra soy sauce. I normally leave the rice behind and always eat every vegetable. This time, I left behind most of the veggies and filled up on rice. I also had a vegetable spring roll. The filling was tasty, but the wrapper was greasy and did not appear to have been fried at the right temperature, allowing it to absorb too much oil. My sister, who has always been a fan, was also disappointed in her meal. The waitress was very sweet and helpful. The large plants were pleasant, but the rest of the decor was very outdated. The table top was greasy, I could draw a picture on it with my napkin wrapped finger. The sauce pot and other condiment containers were dirty. The furniture needs attention. The bottoms of the booths were very tattered with stuffing fibers dangling and looked filthy. I took a picture, but at this moment can't find how to upload it. The bathroom was behind the times and I didn't feel clean. I don't plan to visit the Plum Tree restaurant again. I would highly recommend to the owners that they update their furniture and get rid of the tattered pieces. Brighten up the room a little, clean the windows and table tops. And please consider using fresh ingredients and revise your recipes for better flavor and add in a few more modern recipes. The 70s are over. My personal preference is for fresher foods, more modern recipes, and a brighter cleaner environment. I can't see myself ever returning to the Plum Tree. Now even my sister is having doubts about returning.
Oh, there is so much to love about this place! First of all, the relaxing ambiance is hard to beat. The menu is vast and diverse, and the food - Lord have mercy, the food! Portions are large and freshly prepared to order. Service is thorough, prompt and friendly.
I like the foods in this restaurant, very delicious, the waitress very nice and sweet, the boss very friendly. It's won't take long time to waiting food, the price also reasonable. Definitely will go there next time .
One of the best Chinese food places in the Kingsport area. I like the atmosphere to eat in but slot of the business I believe is take out. The portions are big and the food is fresh. Soup is good and I really enjoyed the egg rolls. The more people that eat the better as there is a lot to share. I ate the kung Pao chicken (they call it something else). My wife had beef with broccoli and she thoroughly enjoyed it as well. So much food that you will probably have leftovers.
Oh, there is so much to love about this place! First of all, the ambiance is hard to beat. There's a water fountain trickling in the middle of the dining area, which contributes to a relaxing atmosphere. The dining area is well-kept and clean, and has a few asian influences to make it feel authentic. The menu is vast and diverse, and the food - Lord have mercy, the food! Portions are large and freshly prepared to order. Service is thorough, prompt and friendly. My favorites here are Sesame Chicken and Ta Chien Chicken. I also tried the Chicken Cantonese, which had a delightful texture but lacked seasoning. The accompanying rice, soup, and egg roll were so tasty that I didn't mind! BTW, this is the only Chinese food restaurant in East TN that doesn't order its egg rolls; each one is freshly prepared in-house. You can tell the difference! Most importantly, I have never gotten the customary "grease hangover" and headache that I usually get after eating ill-prepared Chinese food. This leads me to think that they don't use MSG. Yay Plum Tree!!!
