Friendly efficient staff. Great breakfast combos. Entertaining decor. Would have given 5 stars on the atmosphere but when you are the first person into a breakfast restaurant you should have to shout to be heard over the music. This issue is repeated.

Hands down the BEST pancakes I've ever had. And the blueberry melange is a must on top of them. I wish we had one of these in mobile al. My husband got a breakfast burrito and loved it. I can't wait for next year when we come back up to come here again!

Overhyped and Overrated - A Complete Disappointment

If you’re thinking of stopping by Aretha Frankenstein's, spare yourself the frustration. My recent experience here was a massive letdown in every way possible.

First off, brace yourself for a wait that feels never-ending. A 2-hour waitlist just to get seated should have been the first red flag. But, naively optimistic, we gave it a shot, only to endure another 40* minutes waiting for food after ordering. Given the already ridiculous wait time, this was simply unacceptable.

When the food finally arrived, it was room temperature—far from the hot, fresh meal we expected after such a long wait. The bacon was a major letdown: barely crispy and bland, as if no one in the kitchen even bothered to season it. For a place that’s praised for its breakfast, this was shockingly subpar.

Adding to the disappointment was the complete lack of hospitality. Our waitress barely interacted with us, making us feel like we were just an afterthought. No check-ins, no warmth, just a robotic "take your order, drop off food, and ask for the check" routine. It was the bare minimum at best, and downright rude at worst.

With the quality (or lack thereof) of the food and the dismissive service, Aretha Frankenstein's is a place I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The hype is completely undeserved, and there are far better spots in town where you won’t leave feeling irritated and ripped off.

Ridiculously Long Wait - Not Worth It

Aretha Frankensteins? More like Aretha Wait-and-Wait-Again. I was initially told there’d be a 45-minute wait—long, but doable if the food was really as good as people say. But that was just the beginning of the disappointment.

After waiting well over an hour and a half with no update or apology, I finally gave up and left. To stand around that long, practically forgotten, felt completely disrespectful. Staff seemed indifferent to the mounting wait times and didn't even check in to keep us updated. If this place can’t keep a reasonable handle on waitlists or communicate honestly with customers, I’m not sure how they’re still in business. I understand it's a popular spot, and that's why the wife and I decided to give it a shot but this kind of service is abysmal at best.

Do yourself a favor and skip Aretha Frankenstein's. There are plenty of places where your time (and appetite) will be respected.

Parking: Parking was a hassle, ended up having to park at a bank across from the restaurant.

Good food and service. The decor is my vibe (the bathroom was really cool)

Main drawback: it was SO LOUD in there...but I guess that's because it was pretty packed

Such a mixed bag here. First off, no doubt the folks here want to serve great food. The bacon was thick and flavorful. The omalettes are light and fluffy. Even the breakfast burrito was very respectable.

The kicker is service and speed. We waited over an hour and 20 minutes for a table of 5 - which was cramped as it was a table intended for 4. Saw 5 tables on the patio just empty. Once we got seated, our server moved like molasses in January. We had to track him down for drink refills multiple times.

Overall, I'd come back here, but I wouldn't wait more than 10-20 minutes tops, which means you better get there by 830 or 9 am. The food is good but not so good and unique it's worth waiting so long for slow service at the prices they charge. Bank on spending close to $20/person.

Great food and lots of it. Service was excellent, very attentive but not obnoxious. Atmosphere - from where I was sitting could watch an old Godzilla movie and with a Skelton on a skateboard.
Outdoor seating! 5+.

Sadly..it just doesn't live up to the hype. Waiting 30-40 minutes to get the 2 of us seated at 11am on Saturday (and I had already joined their online waitlist) the food was lackluster. It's not bad. It's just not anything special or exceptional. Prices are fair but it's very loud inside the restaurant. Very tough to have a good conversation and if you're anywhere near the door you have people crowded around you waiting for seats because there's no real waiting area. (I don't understand how there's Not an option to add potatoes to your breakfast burrito? With just cheese and eggs and other soft things It's just a bunch of mush with no texture)

Worth a visit but not worth a drive. Better food for the same money or less money with better service and no 30 minute wait can be found all over the city. Don't buy into the hype.

Excellent service with exceptional food, fluffy omelette that was full of colossal shrimp. Can’t wait to go back again and again.
