Good burgers and good beer. We stopped here on the way through the city and got fish tacos, a burger, and some beers. The fish taco appetizer has good portions and decent flavor. It also has pickled vegetables on the side with some salsa to add if you would like. The burger was nice and juicy but a bit of a mess to split. The patty’s also were double stacked and thicker than I like because they seemed too small for the bun. If they were flattened a little more before stacking it would be perfect. There is beer for most people to like with many light beers but not a huge selection overall.
Parking: Limited number of spaces in the parking lot.
Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs and wide aisles.

First time visit. Beer was top notch - Vecino and Kolsch were superb. Food was excellent. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was exceptional - makes Zaxby's and Chick-Filet seem like crappy fast food compared to this. Waffle Sweet Potato fries were delicious. Great atmosphere, decor and city views. Bathrooms were clean, servers were awesome. Will definitely be back.

Love to visit Balter! The food is great. Sometimes it's tough to get a seat and sometimes the food takes forever to get there after you order. But I guess you have to make some sacrifices for great food. The burgers are amazing and they used to have fresh veggies as a side but they took those away. The green beans are still good but other than that there aren't many healthy sides that aren't an upcharge (I think asparagus is an upcharge).

Absolutely the best service in Knoxville, friendly and helpful! Food was perfectly prepared. If you want your socks knocked off, try the fried green tomatoes, elegant, and unbelievable flavor. I took my wife for our anniversary on 12/23. My wife keeps talking about this place. Try it and you will too. I vote this one of the best of Knoxville.

BALTER is one of our favorite places to go downtown. We went early in the day and it was fantastic. I had an American mule and my husband had the bear beer ( he loved it, looked like a heavy lager but was light and refreshing). We both chose the potpie soup and the biscuits were amazing! Our server was so great as well! Definitely worth your time!

Everyone likes Balter. Ask around and you’ll see. It’s comfortable, friendly, and relaxed. Food has enough small tweaks to make it a step above pub food. Insider tip…happy hour discounts on food and beer. No one does that anymore, but they do! They won Small Brewery of the year a couple of years ago at the GABF. They don’t give those awards away. Mexican lagers are their best beer at present, but they’ve been changing some things around of late for the better. Lots of outdoor seating. Lost a star because it’s really loud in the dining room.
I genuinely love Balter and have been a long time regular at the establishment. The reasoning for my 3 star review is because I just learned of the organization getting rid of their manager, Richard. He was one of the reasons myself and most of my coworkers would go regularly. He's also a reason I would take clients. Rich would always be willing to chat with us and would ALWAYS help us with anything we needed. This was a huge bummer to hear about and will change this restaurant in a negative way. Would love to see Richard back.
