Very strange, unique spot in Knoxville. Dark, the walls are crammed with framed pictures and paintings, very casual, hard to find, but the food is great. I really enjoy the ambiance here and would recommend. Good job!

While the restaurant and the staff are lovely, the food was a huge disappointment. I don't know why I was told this was authentic Mexican food, it is very far from authentic, and not very good at that. I was super excited to see the vegetarian tamales, but they were, frankly, awful, and ridiculously expensive at $18. First of all, the poor tamales were buried underneath a mountain of heavy cheese, not only was it way WAY too much cheese, tamales don't even have cheese! Then there was a layer of some sort of vegetable mass, and underneath that were two bricks of heavy, solid, bland chewy masa, definitely not the way tamale masa is supposed to be. There seemed to be a nice red chili sauce underneath the masa, but it was so buried under all the other stuff that it got lost. (Hint: tamales are traditionally delectable, exquisitely-seasoned tiny meals, each encased in it's own banana leaf.) The only other good part of the meal was the chips and the green tomatillo salsa that came with them, the chips were good and the salsa was very good. I don't see any reason why I'll be going back here, but if you're looking for a nice atmosphere to hang out with friends and you don't mind American food that calls itself Mexican, it's aesthetically, at least, a nice place to hang.

Delicious food. Eclectic atmosphere. Often quite busy.

If you haven’t been, Chez Guevara formerly (and perhaps familiarly) known as La Paz, is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Knoxville, and probably in the whole country. I grew up in Arizona where we ate really great Mexican food all the time. Made from scratch, never canned enchilada sauce, the food here is fantastic. It’s a dark restaurant, so if you need to read the menu, you might need the flashlight on your phone. The decor is awesome and always changing. And, oh yes, it can sometimes be fairly loud. And on the weekend, it can be pretty crowded. But the food is authentic, and the enchiladas are to die for. Like every good dive, they don’t have a sign, but it’s near the inside corner between Barnes & Noble and Trader Joe’s. And they have extended their hours and now are also open for lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Give it a try. You won’t be sorry.

I hadn't been here in years. The food was delicious and the staff was working hard to take care of everyone. I'll be back soon!

The salsa that was brought to the table was too spicy. Ordered the spinach conqueso,, it was too spicy as well. Drinks were good and the California quesadilla was really yummy. A bit overpriced.

At 65 my vision isn't what it used to be. That being said - the bar was a little dark which made it difficult to read the menu. The food was really good and the bar tender was attentive. I'll be back when I'm in Knoxville.

Excellent choice if you are bored with Mexivan food restaurants. More creative, more choices, and better atmosphere.

A one of a kind great experience. You won’t find a better combination of unique food, service and atmosphere anywhere in Tennessee. I moved to Nashville 28 years ago and I can’t pass these folks up when I’m back in town. I literally love this place.

Cozy and quaint. Great friendly service. Smiles and laughter from the staff. Our first time but defo not our last. Elvis burrito and Beef Zapnin were delicious. Queso for my faceo! Try the rattlesnake chili! Can you say beef tips. Mmmm. Sorry no photos it was too good. You'll have to see for yourself.
