A downtown Knoxville staple, Southern Grit is apart of that brunch/lunch style set. With portions that will fill you up when you're halfway through them, you get your money's worth sure.
A packed house when we went on a Sun afternoon, the host was still able to seat us fairly quickly. While our server seemed a bit overwhelmed between the bar and her tables, I could not help but notice how the staff worked together efficiently to assist each other and pick up any slack before it became an issue.
A great team in the kitchen put together a meal for for a king! Deeeelish!

We came here to experience some southern food and it definitely delivered! The food is very filling but a little heavy for my taste. The Mitchell burger was very rich and flavorful. I was so full that I struggled to eat the cheddar grits which were also delicious. The Southern Mess burger was also delicious but not as heavy as the Mitchell burger. I really enjoyed the fried okra as it my first time trying it. The servers were also very polite, and the restaurant was clean and not too noisy.

I’ve been here a few times and the food is always great. Some of the seating is not great (the benches have no support and are too low) but if you go when it’s not crowded they will seat you wherever you want. I got the fried green tomatoes last time and didn’t realize they have honey all over them. I can’t have sugar so they took them back and brought me a new plate with no honey. Very accommodating above and beyond. The banana pudding here is my favorite.

This was almost like a religious experience. My taste buds cried tears of joy! The fried biscuits were out of this world and so was the SG burger. The Southern Mess is also incredible and definitely is a must try. Service was also great! Very attentive to our table.

We were in a road trip and decided to stop in Knoxville for dinner. This place has an amazing food. I ordered the meatloaf and it was just perfect. We were 5 people and everyone liked their food.
They say you should never meet your heroes, but clearly they’ve never met Candy. I ordered a simple unsweet tea, macaroni, a burger slider… and she turned it into a five-star experience. Halfway through my meal, a flock of rogue pigeons somehow burst through the front door (long story), and one made a dive straight for my slider. In one fluid motion, Candy blocked it with a cocktail shaker, slid me to safety, and single-handedly negotiated peace with the birds. She refilled my tea before I even knew I was thirsty again. Her tea pouring technique should be studied in hospitality schools, and if she ever writes a memoir, I’ll be first in line… assuming she isn’t too busy saving the world. 5 stars, no notes

I have to say this was a really good meal. We had the fried chicken and it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The heat levels are ok the hot is really hot the medium has a little heat to it. I wish there was a level between the two. I had the brussel slaw which was really good and fresh and the cheesy grits were really good . They an extensive bourbon selection.
