Drew is one of my very favorite chefs in Knoxville. He hosted our rehearsal dinner at the restaurant and it was truly the most special night of our lives. I’ve also attended many professional banquets at plaid, that involve multiple courses and wine pairings. Drew knocks it out of the park every time. Whenever my husband and I wonder where we should eat out, we are always in the mood for plaid. You can’t go wrong with a dinner here or utilizing The Plaid Apron for special events. They execute with excellence!

It pains me to write this review because I know this is a beloved local hangout. Today was the second time my wife and I had brunch here. The first time was a five star experience, and we were so looking forward to returning. Our meal started with a French press coffee that was room temperature. My wife told the the server to take it back and bring us HOT coffee. I ordered the sausage and goat cheese omelet, same as last time. The omelet presented to me was a veggie omelet. I sent that back, and by the time my order came back out, my wife and our friend had finished eating. Our friend ordered the eggs benedict. He asked me to taste it , and it wasn't even warm, it was refrigerator cold. I urged him to send it back, but he ate it anyway. Throughout this ordeal our server's attitude was totally indifferent. She commented that the manager had not yet arrived. My wife observed that the staff, mostly gen Z'ers, were more attentive to their cell phones than the customers. While the manager is away, the children play. Should we ever decide to return, which is uncertain, we are going to ask if a manager will be on the premises at our reserved time. The worst part of the experience was that we had enthusiastically recommended Plaid Apron to our friend, who accompanied us for the first time, and now we'll have to hear him giving us a dig anytime we suggest a place to eat!!
PS: my wife ordered The Hash and she said it was good.

Let me start by saying, I’d go back just for Taylor, our waitress. She was an absolute delight and reminded me of home. It was such a pleasure talking with a UT student who clearly has a heart for customer service. Taylor is witty, efficient, personable, inviting, knowledgeable, and undeniably charming. She’s passionate about what she does and seamlessly joined our conversations, making the entire dining experience feel authentic, warm, and memorable. If you’re lucky enough to have her as your server, you’re in for a treat. Thanks, Taylor!

Great staple in the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood. Casual and relaxed atmosphere fits perfectly for the location. Food and drinks are enjoyable and the recent pizza addition is very well done.

First time eating here… I absolutely loved it!! Super chill sitting outside and watching the slow motion of passersby’s. The food was very simple but healthy and well plated. It’s by far the best tomato soup I have ever had. The lamb sandwich was easy to eat and filling. It needed a little salt but so what. Ethan was the “hostess with the mostest”. Sorry.. he is male, but I like that saying. He gave us the information on their honey supplier and the fly fans they had on the table, which I quickly ordered. My last note is you HAVE to get the chocolate peanut butter gluten free cookie. Omg…. I’m a sugar addict. These are so GD good! Omg… I went for another, and they were sold out!! Go for the agave mocktail too!!

We started with the gluten-free almond cakes as an appetizer, served with syrup and butter—they were amazing! Light, fluffy, and topped with strawberries, they were a perfect start. For my entrée, I had the patty melt with potato wedges. We originally asked for fries (because they looked incredible in other reviews), but unfortunately, fries are only served at dinner. I usually like a side of ranch with my potatoes, but they only had ketchup. Thankfully, our sweet server found an aioli-style sauce for me to dip in, which was a nice touch. The patty melt itself was a bit on the sweet side due to the sauce—personally, I prefer my savory items to stay savory and my sweet items sweet. But overall, the vibe of the place was nice and worth checking out!

I recently visited The Plaid Apron in Knoxville, a cozy neighborhood cafe known for using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a casual brunch. I ordered the almond pancakes, which were light, fluffy, and had a pleasant subtle sweetness, followed by a patty melt with caramelized onions that was well-prepared but fairly standard in flavor. One important thing to note, during brunch hours, the restaurant serves potatoes instead of fries with burgers, which may catch some diners by surprise. Overall, The Plaid Apron offers a solid brunch experience with quality ingredients and a comfortable vibe, though in my opinion, the food leaned more toward familiar comfort rather than standout or inventive. It’s a good option if you’re looking for a well-executed, classic meal in a laid-back setting.
