The Mercantile Cafe / Sweet Simplicity Bakery / Ice Cream Shop

For the past couple of months my wife and I have been enjoying our Sunday lunch at the Mercantile Cafe. We have lived in the area for about 5 years now and have just recently found this great place to eat. The home cooking reminds me of my Mother’s food she fixed for me growing up. The fresh vegetables and the deliciously prepared meats, rolls and not to mention the deserts. I love the carrot cake!! All these are simply Devine. I love the crème corn, green beans and mashed potatoes. The Chicken and dressing makes every Sunday feel like Thanksgiving. I really enjoy the personal service we get when we are there as well. The owner, Renee always makes it to every table to ensure our experience was above satisfactory. The friendly service from the staff and conversation always puts a smile on our face and wanting to come back week after week. Thank you for great food and service. Highly recommend !!

Very poor tasting food. Not a very nice atmosphere. 100% would never use them to cater. Will not be back.

I love this place

Such a cute shop/diner. Come hungry! Coffee was good too! We shared the jalapeño pimento cheese, bacon, and fried green tomato bagel with fries. It was delightful!

From someone who’s lived in NYC, Salt Lake City, and Nashville… this food was fantastic. The service was so incredibly kind and welcoming. August was very nice! Totally recommend!

My women’s motorcycle group stopped into The Merchantile Cafe for lunch and absolutely loved it. I had reached out to Renee ahead of time to reserve space for our crew. Our numbers dropped due to the rainy weather, but they were so accommodating.

I had a small portion of the chicken and waffles plus the fruit tea - delicious! Some others had the meat & 3 selection of the day which was met with rave reviews.

The real star of the show was dessert. Banana Pudding was to die for and the carrot cake (not pictured) was criminally good.

Highly recommend stopping by The Merchantile Cafe if you’re in the area. I’ll definitely be back soon to try some cookies & ice cream!

Service, atmosphere and food were excellent, especially the cream corn! The chicken and dressing was a bit on the dry side. Everyone was very friendly and everything was clean. There was plenty of seating and parking as well

My husband, son and I visited for the first time yesterday and don't know why we haven't come by sooner!! The food was delicious and the staff made it a fun atmosphere to enjoy lunch! We brought some baked goods home with us and loved them. Can't wait to return 💝

Good home cooking with lots of choices. Try the cream corn. Parking is free. Park on the square in town...only a couple of spots available in front if the restaurant. Order, get your drink and grab a seat. No table service here. Big clean bathrooms.
