A&R BARBEQUE— Hickory Hill

We pass through Memphis fairly often on our way to Ohio and always look forward to sampling Memphis BBQ. This restaurant was such a disappointment. On opening our shredded chicken and pulled pork containers, the first thing I noticed was how much sauce the meat was drenched in - not a good omen. Great BBQ really doesn't require any sauce and the customer should be the one to decide how much sauce to use. The second thing was a strange smoke flavor. When we inquired about what kind of wood was used, they said they used briquettes! 😳 No wonder they cover that up in sauce! The restaurant was clean but very nondescript. I would pass on this if you are looking for good barbecue or don't want to ingest chemical-laden smoke.

On a road trip through to Mississippi, my wife and I stopped for takeout. When we arrived at our hotel a hour later, the rib sandwich with Cole slaw and green beans I ordered (and paid for!) was a baloney sandwich and French fries! Good grief! Get some folks in the kitchen who can read an order. Please! $40 for pulled chicken and baloney is a bit much.

Called in an order which was 33.74 which was combos to be exact you would think if u called in an order an whoever takes the order should have been trained properly would know what combo means anyway I’m not able to drive due to my illness or I would have picked up order myself you would think the staff or whoever behind the counter could read an know that combo means drink as well I feel like I should have gotten my whole order but I didn’t. I also called the store to speak with an manager and the manager was rude as well now I know why I stopped going to this restaurant staff rude as hell need more training worst experience in my life then had the nerves to be short an constantly cutting me off I will never visit this place again never ! I don’t care if it was just a drink it was mine I paid for it a should have received 2 cups not one ! Again lets you know how the staff is trained! I work for a restaurant as well if u don’t like your job just quit ! There is enough things that are high as hell nowadays including food when I pay for something I should get everything! I’m very pissed off about this and yes it’s the hickory hill location I will never again visit this place again! And I know nothing is going to be done about this situation just needed to express myself it’s hard when you can’t get out and do things and have to depend on other people it not right I don’t care if it was just a drink I paid for it plus it’s my money stuff is already high as hell don’t have no money to be throwing away!

The food is great, but the prices have increased while the portion sizes have shrunk. I was already disappointed when they reduced the portions not long ago, and now it seems they’ve gotten even smaller.

Meat could have been a but more tender but overall it was good.

I went in about 20 to 30 minutes ago and no one attempted to take my order nor did anyone say give me a moment or I'll be with you in a moment. The woman behind the counter had just finished assisting a customer when I walked in. There was a guy in front who walked to the back and there was even another lady who came to the front. After 5 minutes or so, I just left. I'm not sure if the workers just didn't give a xxxx or what. But if that's the case, the feeling is mutual. Worst experience so far.

The food was ok my order was 2 catfish plates with coleslaw, baked beans, and green beans on the side, and lots of white slices of bread. A slab of ribs and two cakes one caramel and the other chocolate. 1. The catfish was the best thing they got going period, the coleslaw, baked beans and green beans were decent. The spaghetti sauce was different spicy with bbq sauce it was alright just a bit too bbq and spice. The ribs taste like they were on a grill a bit too long but ok to eat, it’s not that fall off the bone omg delicious like I though it would be to be a bbq place. So in total my order was $86 dollars and some change. Now beware!!!! I don’t know how they add but I woke up the very next day to see $107??? Hmm I know when I was at that counter it was $86 now $107 I don’t remember tipping being my first time there so please BEWARE!! I pray they taste and their ribs and cook them right like to the point the meat falling off. They’re not so bad just taste y’all food and be better??!!! 🤨🙂

Ordered several items the smoke sausage was burned. Call to let them and was offered a replacement I appreciate that but unfortunately couldn't return. So disappointed in the food.

A&R BBQ is so damn ghetto it’s ridiculous…. I called in and was put on hold for 10 minutes. They kept coming back to the phone asking me to hold instead of taking my order so I obviously had to pull up to the store and place my order if it wasn’t for my friend I wouldn’t even go to A&R…!!!

The ribs be under seasoned but overall the food decent. My problem is they are slow as hell. They do more talking than working. Whether you order through the app or doordash 9 out of 10 times don't start making it until you arrive. I've seen people come in and order and leave with their food before me and I pre-ordered and paid 30 minutes before I even get there
