Today, I’m sharing my experience at Char Restaurant, located on Highland Street in Memphis. This is a fine dining restaurant, and I chose it to celebrate my friend’s birthday. We made a reservation for two, and everything from the moment we arrived was smooth and welcoming.
We were seated promptly, and the atmosphere was elegant and relaxing, just as you’d expect from a fine dining establishment. The staff were courteous and professional. I don’t recall the name of our server, but he took excellent care of us throughout the evening.
🍽️ What We Ordered: Fried Chicken (Main Course) – Served with vegetables and gravy, this dish was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, and the presentation was spot on. Shrimp and Grits with French Fries – My friend ordered this and mentioned it was the best she’s ever had. The shrimp were well-cooked, and the grits were creamy and flavorful. Blueberry Banana Pudding – This dessert was a delightful surprise. I had asked the server to bring it out as a birthday surprise, and he did so perfectly — bringing it out when she wasn’t looking, which made the moment even more special. 💬 Final Thoughts: We had a wonderful time celebrating, and my friend truly enjoyed her special day. I really appreciate the hospitality and attention to detail shown by the Char team. The food, service, and ambiance all came together to create a memorable experience.
We’re definitely planning to return soon to explore more of the menu.

I really enjoyed the cornbread dusted redfish. The creamed spinach was quite tasty as well! The service was exceptional. I would definitely recommend Char!

The restaurant itself was nice, but the overall experience wasn’t what we expected. Our table linens were covered with a white paper sheet, which felt out of place for the setting. We were a party of eight with reservations, yet the wait was still quite long.
My husband and I ordered our steaks medium-well, but they arrived well-done and room temperature. Several others in our party also received meals that were warm or cold. We were told the dishes were held until everyone’s meals were ready, which likely contributed to the temperature issues. We were also offered the option to have the plates taken back to be warmed up, which isn’t ideal and would have further overcooked an already well-done steak.
On a positive note, our waitress was pleasant and attentive throughout the meal. While we appreciated her service, the food quality and overall experience did not meet our expectations.

We needed buffet style meal, delivered to office. Ordered Salmon and Herb Roasted Chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables.
Most everyone highly enjoyed the salmon and sauteed vegetables. It was all delicious and those are the items we had the most comments about.
Next big meeting, we host, we are excited to try Amerigo!

Great atmosphere even on a Monday night. It was just what I wanted. We were greeted upon our arrival; which is a plus for me. The accommodation for my husband to look at his two favorites (wife & football) were a plus for me.. We asked and the Host delivered. The food was wonderful, our waiter was nice, and the restrooms were clean .

The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. We all had the fillet at different temperatures. Great service. Consistency is the key. I've never had a bad experience there after eating there many times.
The Redfish and Creole Sauté was amazing. We ate in the Lounge and service was spectacular! Amazing experience!
