We have eaten at Pancho's since we were young, traveling to West Memphis before they opened a Memphis location. They have their own distinct flavors. We go about once a month. Well, we are disappointed to say that Pancho's which has been successful for so many years seems to be making changes to their food. The chips are no longer the same and its NOT am improvement. However the scariest change seems to be in the cheese and onion enchilada......they used a different cheese. This cheese was much milder and as such had MUCH less flavor, and the enchilada gravy seemed different. Our last disappointment was that the salsa was mostly water. I son't know if the waitress didn't stir it up or if they are watering it down, but it was kind of sad. We left the restaurant feeling betrayed. What happend to the wonderful cheese and onion enchiladas we loved? Why change a chip that has been used for decades? Why change the gravy? Pancho's customers come for their favorites. I hope they realize that.
The whole establishment was run down and dirty. The waitress brought out chips and dip and asked us what we wanted to order. We placed our order and had to wait forever on our drink to be brought to us. There was only two other tables with customers and they were both finishing up. We finally got our drinks and our meal and it was just ok. We never got refills or checked on after our meal was delivered. The dip was not good and we didn’t even eat it. We had to go find someone to bring us the check. We checked out and were charged for the chips and dip. It was called a set up. We were not aware of that nor were we informed of that. When we asked the waitress she said she asked us when we were seated if we wanted dip and chips. That conversation never happened. After telling her no one told us of that charge she rudely said yes she did and continued to take our money. Needless to say I would not recommend eating here. We had heard such good reviews would sad to say we cannot give one.
Went in to celebrate a friend’s birthday. After 20 minutes seated at the table, no server came by. I got up and found a server coming out of the kitchen and asked if she was working our area. She said “No”, but would get someone over there. Ten minutes passed before our server came around. She took our drink orders and did bring them right away. She took our food orders and asked how we were paying, as a group, individual or couple. She wrote something down. Our food finally came, but not everyone’s did, with a lapse of maybe 10 minutes. Our server never checked in to refill our water/tea glasses, but a couple of people did get a second alcohol drink after flagging her down. I don’t know what was going on, but there was not many people there, so not busy. Our server brought our checks and my husband’s and mine were on someone else’s ticket, so they had to be redone. There were 14 people in our party, and I understand the restaurant automatically adding a gratuity for large groups, but maybe it should be only 10% with each ticket and add additional percentage based on the service. We were charged 18% for very poor service. I understand restaurants automatically charging gratuities, because some qualified and deserving folk might get stiffed, but why should we pay for unsatisfactory work. I have been a server before and knew to check on my customers. Perhaps more training is in order. The food was really good, however.
I have not eaten at Pancho’s in several years. When I entered the restaurant, I felt like it was much cleaner than the last time I visited. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with all of our questions. The food was very good, we will eat here again.
Lunch with a friend after church at an old favorite. The "build your own" lunch special was available (most restaurants do not have this option on Sunday) so I selected El Tres and all three of my choices were very good. Service was prompt. I enjoyed the decor, especially the lovely fountain near the entrance. Everything was good/ better than average but the cheese dip is still the star of the show.
Despite the crowd of people in the front and being told there was a 20 minute wait, the restaurant was surprisingly only half full. They immediately brought individual chips, salsa, and cold queso to each of us. A friend doesn't eat sauces and condiments due to lots of allergies so they are particular to ask for everything on the side and yet, their appetizer arrived with an announcement that the kitchen didn't listen and the sauce on it. After asking to have it remade, what we later found out was the manager came by our table and made the comment "I wish you had said something" to which I responded "he did!" and the waitress verified it in front of her. The entrees arrived immediately after and the friend's entree was wrong. At this point he wanted nothing more to eat and ask for the manager (not realizing it would be the same person who blames him for not ordering right). And this is the kicker......the manager threw the server completely under the bus basically in front of her! She explained the server is always having issues and probably didn't ring it right......as the server dropped napkins off to us and refilled drinks. So the overall rating is a 2 and that's being generous and really based off my meal and the fact that I did bring my leftovers home. I've never had a brown gravy on a tex-mex dish so I got it on the side but it wasn't bad....just different. And finished the drink even though it wasn't strong at all for a margarita.
Fantastic every time we go. Love the cheese dip. I had the enchilada and husband had the chimiganga. Great service. Everything we've had has been excellent. Great atmosphere for couples, families, and just groups of friends.
We have eaten here when we were younger many many times and always loved their cheese dip. This was the first time back in many years with high hopes. The staff were very good as always! The menu was more limited than I recall but still looked good. The famous dip is nothing like it use to be unfortunately and we ordered the white cheese dip as well and it was good but basic chile con queso. The entrees were good, tacos very good and we enjoyed our lunch just wasn’t what we’re expecting or remembered unfortunately. Overall I would recommend for lunch with the basics.
Met at the door and seated quickly . Waitress was Friendly and knowledgeable. Food arrived quickly and was Very Good .

It had been a few years since I'd been to Pancho's and I was really looking forward to a good lunch. While the food wasn't 'bad' - it wasn't necessarily 'good' either. We arrived around 1 - in time for the lunch crowd to be clearing out. Our server was very friendly and was actually the highlight of the visit. My tamales were dry and almost all cornmeal - extremely little filling (I made tamales for the first time recently - and even mine were better). The chicken enchilada was ok - just not a lot of flavor - I added hot and cheese sauce (which I always like and buy at the grocery store) to perk it up. The accompanying beans were not good at all. They were actually dry on the top (my friend's was the same) - rice was not quite as bad - but we had to wonder if it had actually been plated ahead of time, just waiting on the rest of the order. I believe our server was Bonnie and was really friendly. Pancho's has been somewhat of a 'landmark' in Memphis, and maybe I was expecting too much - but I've had much better at some of the newer Mexican restaurants. It was ok - but I don't think we'll be returning.
