Let me start by saying this is not mexican food. Im in town from Chicago and was craving mexican food. The name made me think i had found a good spot. No one resembling a Elena works here. I took a peek in the kitchen and no mexican cooks on hand. They were not even playing mexican music in the background. No one on the premises was mexican. This was Indian food disguised as pretend Mexican. The person taking my order and the person passing the food along are both of Indian or Pakistan descent. If you are craving mexican food, dont let the name fool you like it did me. I should have walked out when i saw "rolled tacos" on the menu. You mean Flautas? Thats the real name and is just another sign this is not authentic mexican food. The spices are not mexican. And now i have Indian food aftertaste. Im sorry. I cannot endorse this place as real or authentic mexican food. It should be moved to another category in the google search results. If you dont know what mexican food is then you may be fooled and you may enjoy this but someone craving mexican food needs to find a different place. This is not it.
It is a great sign when the first thing you see when entering a Mexican takeout restaurant is a salsa bar. First impressions held up after biting into one of their breakfast burritos--delicious! After spending 10 years in southern California, I have relatively high standards for Mexican food... this place does it right.

Delicious tacos and salsas. I love the carne asada fries, but I can't say no to a good street taco!

So we haven't been to this location for some years, but decided to pop in tonight. Have to say that everything looks like its been downhill since last time. Quality of the food is way down. The rolled tacos are basically store bought taquitos, deep fried. Then they bury them in cold sour cream and store bought guac so the tacos are cold. Same with the carne asada burrito. Just huge mouthful of sour cream. Fries didn't fare much better. So this was really disappointing, not even taking into account the weird confusing interaction during ordering that ended up with us paying for 2 combos for a single person. That I can chalk up to miscommunication etc, but overall it doesn't feel like the original restaurant any more. Don't think we'll be returning, don't know what happened to this place.

I had really high hopes for this place as a native Californian since they tout themselves as Baja Mexican food. I’ll get the negatives out of the way. The fish tacos and the rice were not what I’d get in California unless it was 4am and I was starving in Barstow or somewhere I wouldn’t want to eat seafood. Too much sauce on the fish and the sauce tasted sadly midwestern. The positives, burritos were large (couldn’t even finish the small) and well received, and the street tacos were great. I will go again and give them another chance but I won’t order the fish tacos again.

I recently tried the chips and queso as well as the chips and salsa at Elena’s Taco Shop in Memphis, and I must say, they exceeded my expectations. The chips were perfectly crispy, and the queso was rich and flavorful. The salsa had a delightful mix of fresh ingredients, creating a burst of flavors with every bite. It’s evident that they prioritize quality and taste. A definite must-try for anyone looking for authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine in Memphis!

Definitely will get your moneys worth. I ordered the chicken fries. The original is the entire take out box. The portion was more than I expected! Less than half way through, I was full. Great spot!

Well done creating the takeout window to make eating my favorite tacos in Memphis safer for everyone during a global pandemic. My recommendation to order is: two fried shrimp tacos or a surf and turf burrito (small is plenty), mild red salsa and a large horchata to drink. My wife loves their carne asada fries. You know you’re in a good spot when you see local police getting food to go. See also, Alex’s Tavern.Update: still a solid lunch option for a good meal, quick, and easy. Thankful places like this exist in the city.
