DISGUSTING FOOD AND MANAGEMENT!! In all honesty, the food here was just as bad before and after the time that I worked here. When you think you can’t go wrong with something like a quesadilla, WRONG. Yes you can. It comes out cold, but the steak is over cooked due to sitting all day and tastes boiled at best. Trust me, every meal lacks flavor. Now let’s discuss “management”. Global Cafe promotes itself as having such great missions and values but demonstrates the complete opposite. Based on the past 3 months I have been working here, I can say that none of this is reflected by Juan, who is somehow the general manager. Juan’s character does not align with anything that this restaurant claims to stand for. To say the least, he degrades his employees and disrespects them heavily. Not once did he train me or other new employees, but gets mad when they ask crucial questions (he will yell across the store and embarrass them publicly). Throughout my shifts, I am on my toes making sure everything is done and guests are satisfied while Juan is in the kitchen eating. This is always the case and is pretty unsanitary to see him digging his bare hands in the food, condiments, and fryer. He “greets” guests by talking across the kitchen with food in his mouth. On top of this, he manually alters timesheets; you do not get paid for coming in early to get started or when you stay after during a rush. But here’s the kicker: I got fired from the job during the restaurant’s holiday break, and found out by going into the company app to check my schedule but seeing that I’d been locked out. No communication, no signs, no heads up, nothing. I am truly appalled by this experience. I had to reach out to Juan out of utter shock just for him to reply a few days later that he has no hours for me. The least he could have done was come forward and let me know. I would like to not let Juan’s actions define Global Cafe, but I reached out to Sabine, the store owner, regarding this situation. It has been two days and she failed to reply to my concerns as well. So, if you truly care about great food, empowerment, or morals, DO NOT COME NEAR THIS PLACE. Thank you :)
The food was honestly so bland and nasty I will not be back. Please head this warning if you want to eat here

The best shrimp ceviche I’ve had!! The restaurant was packed but service was super quick, and it was absolutely delicious. Could not recommend more!

Food lacked any flavor and I’m so disappointed, especially for what I paid. The same can be said of the soup, which has a gritty taste. Proportions were generous but taste was incredibly lacking - I don’t have much else to say save *insert crying emoji here*

Food is great, Margaritas ($3.95 Tues/Thurs/Sun) are awesome, Juan is the closet thing to Jesus that has ever walked Earth.

Such great food and diverse menu with a strategic mission behind the work. Find food from around the globe and the best drinks from Juan. Check out these gallons of margs!!

Fortunately, the service, system, and atmosphere here are amazing, but the food quality has declined. The food now feels more internationally inspired rather than authentically international.”

The level of customer service today was terrible, the food was inconsistent and bland compared to what I usually order. The two managers that were unprofessional and unattentive.

Delicious ceviche, great tacos, and the best margaritas in town. Plus, Juan and staff make you feel welcome, it would be easy to become a regular here.

A group of friends and I travelled to Memphis for a little day trip, and one of them requested that we go to Global Cafe, their favorite restaurant in Memphis. They are gluten free, and so we went knowing that there would at least be food available for them. I ordered the Fajita de Pollo Wrap, my friend got the Asado Bowl, and my other two friends got the Chicken Shawarma and Street Tacos. We decided to eat outside as it was a good day out, but the inside is a vibe too. Definitely a cafeteria type vibe, which is great for meeting new people and of course experiencing different cultures together(hence the name). I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this cafe. Our food came, and all of my friends' food looked amazing. Mine looked a little lack luster, but I tried not to judge a book by its cover. I took one bite of my wrap and really wasn't that impressed. My chicken was dry, and the chips and salsa that came with it were pretty bland, only spicy. I did enjoy the street tacos, but the chicken in the Shawarma also tasted pretty dry. We needed to add a lot of sauce to make it better. My friend's asado bowl looked pretty good and of course they ate all of it, so I'm not sure on the taste of that, but it might be the only good thing that came out of our four orders, in my opinion. Our service was helpful, and so I can't necessarily blame them for the food. Overall, it wasn't necessarily a bad experience, but the food, to me, isn't all that great.

We went to eat yesterday. The staff are not nice. My friend was asking them question about what’s good to eat and what’s vegetarian and they were just rolling their eyes.

I just had brunch here. I sat at the bar. When I arrived I ordered from the server standing behind me at the bar and he ushered me to go to the register to order. I ordered the rice and beans with shredded beef and plantains. I also ordered 2 over medium eggs. The eggs came out scrambled and overcooked. The black beans were cold, the beef was just a little warmer than room temp, and the plantains were under cooked. Before I had tasted anything I told the server about the eggs and he told me that the Spanish crew in the back could not understand English and it was hard to communicate. The meal was also bland without seasoning. He did not offer to fix the situation. The bartender never said another word to me not even thank you, have a nice day when I left.

I’ve been coming to Global Cafe since they opened and it’s always been a favorite. The food usually never disappoints, and I love the variety of global cuisines. Recently, the food has been inconsistent and disappointing unfortunately. I took my mom out for dinner and she chose the Thupka and I ordered the Plantain Soup. The Thupka was way too spicy for her (she was frustrated because nowhere on the menu does it indicate that it’s spicy), and the meat was missing, so I gave her my Plantain Soup and boxed the Thupka to bring home to my partner and decided to order another Plantain Soup for myself. The first bowl of soup was overflowing with chicken and yucca root but didn’t have a single piece of plantain in it…the second bowl of soup had chicken, and not a single piece of yucca root - there were two pieces of plantain in the soup. Just a bit frustrating for the soups to be so inconsistent, in the span of 10 minutes. I’ve noticed in the past that dishes usually always come out a bit different than the time before, but to not have plantain in a soup when it’s the main event feels kind of silly. The service was also a bit disappointing compared to how it usually is - we had to ask for a box multiple times and at one point one of the staff took my mojito before I was finished drinking it. I will keep going to Global and supporting of course! Just some food for thought.
Delicious food from immigrant chefs sharing their culture on a plate.
