This was my first time trying food from this restaurant, and it was a very bad experience. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I ordered Vegetable Jalfrezi, which is supposed to contain bell peppers (capsicum), sliced onions, carrots, green beans, green peas, cauliflower florets, baby corn, and tomatoes.
However, the curry I received looked like it only had zucchini, carrots, and broccoli. It was completely different from what was described on the menu.
This is the worst food experience I have had anywhere in the USA.
Very disappointing and a very bad experience.

EVERYONE should know this is not Golden India. New Golden India is the business name. I am not a fan of the price the quality or anything about this New Golden India. Feel bad for the waitress but once word gets around maybe she can get a job at India Palace. Shoulda stayed Golden

New ownership and it’s called “New Golden India” now. I enjoyed it and liked my chicken butter curry. I think the Naan bread could improve. The waitress was very nice. They did add a tv that plays Indian music videos which was a bit distracting at times but overall it was a good experience.

Not true to Indian traditional food. Odered several dishes. They advertise chicken wings online but not on menu in restaurant. The sevice was so so so slooooooooooow I could knit a scarf. The bottom he seated me was nasty with food crumbs on the table and seat. He wipped the table with his hand, also the seats. The food is bland. I ordered chickpea salad, lamb curry and chicken dish. Chickpea salad was good however the other dishes were not tasty. Taste thrown together. I've had better street food.

This restaurant my family and I have frequented for 25 years, we’ve had them cater 5 weddings including mine.
Now there’s new ownership and the food is subpar at best. Atmosphere cut in half, and service is so so.
However the direction of how the food has gone is horrible and they’ve increased the price 4x
A single naan costs $5 that’s one naan cut into 4 pcs

Restaurantji Recommends
I've been going to Golden India for a decade and the new owners have made the food awful. The aloo gobi was totally different, not the usual stir-fried potatoes and cauliflower in spices, but in a soupy liquid sauce that just tasted bad. The vegetable korma was weirdly sweet yet bland. The basmati rice was clumpy like it hadn't been washed/cooked correctly. Golden India has always had the best naan in town, but what we were served was more like undercooked pita. The onion bhaji is no longer on the menu. To cap it off, I ordered a cup of chai at the beginning of the meal. By the end of the meal, it hadn't been served. They took it off the bill, but geez. The server was very nice, but obviously overworked as she was the only one doing front of house and handing out to go orders on a Friday night. This led to us and all the tables around us not getting water refills. Overall, I am so disappointed and can no longer recommend this restaurant.

Golden India used to be my partner’s and my absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Memphis. Since moving here, we’ve eaten there at least once a month, sometimes every other month, and it was always something we looked forward to. I always ordered the Paneer Tikka (spicy), and my partner got the Chicken Vindaloo (also spicy). We’d share an order of garlic naan, which was hands down the best naan I’ve ever had - fluffy, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned.
The Paneer Tikka was always spot on - rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. My partner’s Chicken Vindaloo was consistently excellent as well, with deep, balanced seasoning. Everything about it used to feel like comfort food done right.
Unfortunately, our most recent order was a complete letdown. The paneer tasted like canned tomatoes thinned out with water, no seasoning at all. I actually had to add my own spices and pour raita over it just to make it edible, and even then, I couldn’t finish it. The garlic naan, which used to be incredible, was barely the size of two hands, thin, flavorless, and I couldn’t even see any garlic. For $5.50, it was shocking. My partner’s Chicken Vindaloo was just as disappointing. It tasted like someone tried to make a roux and ended up with watery flour instead of a flavorful sauce.
We’re genuinely sad to say we won’t be back. Golden India used to be our go-to for a special treat, but after this experience, it feels like everything we loved about it is gone. Hopefully the new management will consider making some changes.

Excellent service! Bobby sir is the best! He’s the sweetest ever! Took great care of my mom and mee. Ordered garlic naan, paneer, fish pakoras and potato samosas! Errything was a 10/10! Food quality and hospitality were 10/10s! Go here and support a local family business!!!!

What happened?
This used to be one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. I’m assuming ownership has changed because we just had possibly our worst dining experience in Memphis.
We ordered palak paneer and lamb vindaloo, along with a side of naan. The naan was like a communion wafer topped with jarred minced garlic. Not only that, but despite them specifically telling us the order came with two pieces, it was only one piece, cut into four slices and arranged in two pairs. Do they think we are stupid? This was $5 for a single piece of bread.
The palak paneer listing on the menu should have just said “spinach broth with cheese chunks”. It was so watery you could almost see through it. The lamb in the vindaloo was nice and tender. Bummer that they ruined good meat by preparing it with as much flavor as a nursing home soup. (And just as watery.) Neither dish had any taste whatsoever. And I guess “medium” spicy meant “midway between mayonnaise and saltine crackers.”
The portion sizes were all miserable, but management is so cheap they cut the previous rice portion in half. They gave us one small dish for three people, and it was not nearly enough. Who skimps on rice??
I didn’t try the tandoori mixed grill that we also ordered, but there were no words of praise about it. All in all, we ordered three entrees, two pieces of naan, and a single beer, and we spent NINETY-SIX DOLLARS before tip. The employees could tell how dissatisfied we were, and they absolutely did not care. Never going back here again. I’m sticking with Trader Joe’s frozen Indian food because somehow that is infinitely superior. R.I.P. Golden India.

I’ve been coming here for several years but today I ordered my typical order of butter chicken and tandoori chicken and it was absolutely horrible. Even the garlic naan was extremely thin and burnt.I also learned that it’s under new management and I wish they would change the name so it presents as a new restaurant instead trying to trick people by only putting “new” in front of their name. Everything is different including the menu and recipes. It was also way more expensive.
