Beware the Wine TaxBeing a frequent out of town visitor to family in Memphis, Iris has always been the place to celebrate our family reunions. The food and service has always been excellent but our last visit was dimmed by the increase in prices and especially by the unexpected additional "wine tax". The wine prices are high enough and this seems like adding insult to injury in light of the other taxes assessed on the food. We would advise the management to clearly state that there is a special extra tax on wine and also would advise the restaurant association to lobby for a repeal of this tax. We have enjoyed our experiences at Iris over the years but sadly we feel that we have finally been priced out of returning to our traditional family dining place.

My wife and I dined at Iris for our anniversary. We had a fantastic experience! From cocktails to dessert, every bite was fabulous! Jim was our waiter. We could not have asked for better service! What a wonderful anniversary dinner!!! Chef English is second to none!

Ambiance and waitress was great, but sadly, the food was not good this night. Ordered the steak, the meat was chewy and tough. Total came to $200 for a meal that was sub par. Ate at Cafe 1921 later that week and it was amazing! I hope it was just an off night for Iris...

The food was great the restaurant nice and intimate. I had the lamb and as good as that was the spinach was better. When the sides are that great you know they want to give you the best food they can.

So this place I would normally give a 5 star review. They have natural herbs along with vegetables growing outside. The inside is so beautiful and the staff is great. My complaint is one that is important to me. The food is very high dollar. So I expect it to hit my table in the same aspect. Well I ordered the lamb and I love lamb. The first hair, I thought well maybe it's mine, the second one I thought the same thing. Then I found the third and my friend had to literally pull the hair off the crusted seasoning of the lamb. Normally I'd let this type of thing go since I have worked in the same food industry. I asked for my meal to be replaced. Which it was and it was great. However the bill comes and we were Charged full price. Comped? Nah I could see how they wouldn't fully comp it. But not even a discount. I couldn't believe it. Several hairs in our food. A female with long hair that very color brought my food to me. Now it happens and I assume people wash their hair but why not compensate for someone's meal being ruined like that. For a pricey place this is uncalled for. The air conditioners were also not working and we had to ask for fans because we were sweating so bad. I don't want anything from this other than y'all to do better. I already have social anxieties and don't like going out but am even more upset when service isn't provided in the manner I would see fit if I ran a high end restaurant in Mid-town. Hey

I love this romantic, private, very classy restaurant. My fiance and I shared a lovely evening on my birthday just last week and I must say that our expectations were amazingly exceeded! Fantastic food along with professional waiter service! Our evening was definitely perfected! We will be back!
