Great food. Wonderful intimate atmosphere. Service tends to be pretty good. Best lemon drop I've had.

First and foremost, the calamari was great, server was nice, atmosphere was nice. However, the cajun prime rib, priced at $50, was very disappointing. Server forgot fries and had to ask 3 times about them; did not get them until we had already finished the food. The au jus was cold, as well as the steak. Overall, the meal was very disappointing and not worth the price we paid.

I'll start by stating I've been coming here for over 25+ years and it has previously always been excellent with top notch service. The whole place has changed. Service is nothing like it used to be. The girl that took my reservation needed to be checked for a pulse. We arrived and the tattooed, pierced, weird hair dyed 2 gals at the reception area were like robots- no personality. The one that seated us never said a word- they used to all turn around on the way to the table to ask about your day and engage in conversation. Not tonight. The server was just "OK" but so are the ones at Perkins, Denny's and Waffle House. Ordered a Grey Goose Dirty Martini, glass of wine, French Dip and Ahi Tuna.Martini arrived and was not Grey Goose and not dirty. No olives or garnish. I always get the bleu cheese olives but server didn't ask. Was barely shaken-no ice crystals. Tasted it and sent it back. 2nd came and still wasn't Goose but was faintly dirty and two olives with a microscopic amount of bleu cheese (I suspect they just tossed a dash of brine in the first one, stirred once and poured it back in the glass). I drank most of the glass and left the sidecar untouched on the table when we left. I normally quaff down 2 at dinner there despite the bartenders NEVER shaking them enough despite requests to do so. The baguette was stale and I ate half the sandwich and left the other half. Both martinis were pitiful and the food was just "okay". I'll review them and try them one more time. The restaurant scene in Memphis is really sad. The labor pool really worries me about the future. We are accepting way too low a standard today. The Redlands management and manager at this J. Alexander/Redlands needs to seriously reevaluate their standards, processes and results. They have one more chance with me but that will be all. Worst 85 buck dinner I've ever had. 2 drinks, 1 appetizer and 1 sandwich. With great service, atmosphere and good food quality that is a great dinner and good value. I would not come back and be happy with last nights experience for 20 or 30 bucks. This place is close to the house and we go frequently. Usually our checks are much larger, we usually have a party of 4-6, but we just ran out for a light dinner. If you go out and have poor service, a bartender that is barely competent or a food issue you can chalk it up to one bad night and forget it. These folks hit the "Trifecta". They managed all 3 and it is almost assuredly not a "one bad night" problem.Edit Feb. 29 2024Talking with management doesn’t solve anything so stop the stupid gestures. I talked to you in the review.4:15 PM. The Asian Twins at the front acted all busy and told me to standby when I asked for a table for 1. Nobody in the restaurant and hardly anybody in the bar. After being told to jog in place I told them I’d grab a seat at the bar “if it’s such a big deal to get a table!!” Horrible front end service and first impression. As bad as the last visit. I’d think management would want the guest’s first interaction to be top notch- apparently not.

Went back to J. Alexander's for lunch today and spoke with the manager Dani about my experience with the Carrot Cake! She was extremely friendly and professional and rectified my issue with the Carrot Cake. Service and N.Y. Strip was outstanding as usual!!!Food and Sevice were excellent!!! Do not order Carrot Cake! It is not good! Steaks and Filet Mignon were outstanding!!! Salad was sensational and fresh!!! Service and food are highly consistent. Sam was our server this time and he was magnificent!

My husband and I made reservations for Valentine's Day. Even though they were pretty packed that night, we were seated before reservation time. Our server Grace was amazing. She answered any questions we had and even chit chatted with us for a few minutes in between her waiting other tables. I ordered the NY strip and MANNNN. It was the best steak I have ever had. I was full but I just couldn't stop eating it lol thank you for the experience Grace!

J Alexander's has a comfortable moody vibe and the most delicious food. My husband enjoys the tasty and tender ribs, while I always opt for either salmon or grouper, both delectable. We finished our meal with "the warm carrot cake!" What a page-turner. Our favorite restaurant and we are regular restaurant-goers. Try J's you will love it!

Having visited J Alexander's restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee once, I can say that the service was satisfactory. J Alexander's is a chain restaurant that I used to frequent when I lived in Jacksonville, Florida, and it used to be one of my favorites. However, over time, I feel that I have outgrown the restaurant. While the service at J Alexander's was great during my visit, I found the quality of the steak to be mediocre. As someone who enjoys steaks from dedicated steakhouses, I was disappointed with the overall taste and presentation. In hindsight, I should have explored other options on the menu, as I have heard that their salads are quite amazing. Although I only had wine during my visit, I have heard positive reviews about their drink selection. It might be worth trying their specialty drinks if you are familiar with the chain and its offerings. It is worth noting that the restaurant is now called Redland, so if you were familiar with it under the J Alexander's name, be aware of the rebranding. In conclusion, if you are already familiar with the J Alexander's chain and have had positive experiences in the past, it might be worth giving Redland a try in Memphis. However, if you are seeking an exceptional steak or a new dining experience, there may be other options in the area that better suit your preferences.

This establishment was super light and friendly. Customer service magnificent. The food was so delicious . I have never eaten a steak this good ever. Every piece was succulent. The macaroni and cheese were amazing as well. Surprised me, being the first time I ate here, but I will be going back many times, I swear. Thank you from 2 gunz!
